Your fix will work 100%. You can also boot into XP using the disc and run ASR. With SP2 this will give you the command prompt option and you can get the OS to see what boot info is available across all drives. From there you can also tell the OS to save whichever boot info you want and it will mod your boot.ini as well.
 
vista related problem with yahoo

im having a problem viewing my yahoo messages, they are able to open but there is no text. im only having thhis problem with my laptop i recently acquired which runs vista my office and home pc work fine as im able to read my yahoo messages...can somone pls help??

Using the latest yahoo messenger?? Or is this yahoo email messages?? If then do you have the latest version of your browser and have you tried different browsers??

How would that give you peace of mind? Because UAC is still on?

Because allowing the the 'elevate without prompt' is basically turning off UAC, although it user account settings it may still say it's on.

The whole point of UAC is to get you to confirm that it is indeed you that started a process or app that requires admin privileges. If it elevates the privileges without prompting, any process, be it a virus or some malware, would automatically get admin privileges without notifying you or giving you the chance to stop it.

If u have network related problems when connecting to non vista machines

open secpol.msc console
then local policies
then security options then Network security: LAN Manager authentication level and change it to "Send LM & NTLM responses" and there you go.

I disabled it in any event, because it stopped programs I was trying to use.

I got it from a link on some website, which sounded like it could work, but it didn't. I kinda forgot about this thread btw.

I installed Vista Ultimate this weekend and I'm loving every second of it. Its a bit data hungry, but its still awesome. I'm currently too lazy to create my own Dreamscene backgrounds, any one have any links to some cool ones (I already have the new Dreamscene update with new vids)?

Alright, answer this - have you ever had Windows buckle under the weight of all of these applications and display error messages stating that the system is out of memory or out of resources, buttons and menus do not work correctly, or you get an error sound but no message on the screen? I've hit this numerous times, to the point that I've lost work because of it..."

I experienced MAJOR problems with Vista - requiring reboots after 3 hours of continuous usage. Windows would vanish, menu bars would not display correctly, available RAM ( I've got 4 gigs ) would show as out of memory etc.

I tried the below tweak - which touch wood - seems to have made an immeasurable difference !

Just an update - Since adjusting the GDI values I've had plain sailing -- has made a remarkable difference and am no longer getting the many out of memory msgs I used to receive.
