Hi,
I bought a original legit copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 (OEM) a few weeks ago.
On the day I bought it, I upgraded my PC from a not-so-legal XP to the legal new XP Pro SP2. I checked my activation status and it was activated already.
This weekend I decided to format that PC and reinstal my new Windows XP Pro SP2 from scratch. I formatted, installed and checked the status - again this would already activated.
I then decided to try my other machine. I formatted fully, installed and checked the status - to find it was already activated as well! None of the PCs have internet connections either.
How does this thing work? Why do I not need to activate it the copy?
