Hi,

I bought a original legit copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 (OEM) a few weeks ago.

On the day I bought it, I upgraded my PC from a not-so-legal XP to the legal new XP Pro SP2. I checked my activation status and it was activated already.

This weekend I decided to format that PC and reinstal my new Windows XP Pro SP2 from scratch. I formatted, installed and checked the status - again this would already activated.

I then decided to try my other machine. I formatted fully, installed and checked the status - to find it was already activated as well! None of the PCs have internet connections either.

How does this thing work? Why do I not need to activate it the copy?

lucky you I have to phone them everytime to activate my copy of xp and them why I'm activating and so on

but how much did he pay for it? You can't buy them just like that at matrix or something?

I don't think it is Corporate - caue it would say on the sleeve? It seems to be OEM Windows XP Pro SP2 and I paid R899.00.

My friend had a copy version of windows xp SP2 from hong kong cause his original snapped(truth) and that also didn't have to be activated,it could be a pirated version
