Hi, recently got a I3 sandy bridge PC when I try to install XP on it i receive an BSOD 7E. I first thought that it may be ram or something but I replace all the hardware and still I get the same error. I read online that a slipstream XP disk with service pack 3 on it will do the job but still the same problem, I have tried several different XP disk and versions. When I insert a windows 7 disk no problem any other things I could try to get XP on the machine. Is this a general sandy bridge problem?

I doubt it.

Do you have onboard graphics on the motherboard and a graphics card?

If you do, do the installtion with the onboard only, remove the graphics card and insert it only after Windows is installed.

Hey a quick thought...

You probably will have to slipstream the XP SATA drivers for the mobo... even with SP3, you will have to load SATA drivers during setup.
A work around is to set the SATA controller to IDE mode in the BIOS.... you will not have the advantage of native SATA performance though.

Have a look on the mobo website... you will need to follow the instructions for creating a SATA driver, and press F6 (I think) during XP setup to install this.

EDIT: Quick linkys...

Nice post Kilo, that was totally out of my mind. Haven't done a XP install in almost a year :p

If it's an original XP CD before SP's then that may be the cause. It doesn't work on Intel Atoms for example. Needs to be SP2.

Win XP will work with I3 cpu -IF- it is supported by your motherboard. Some boards do NOT support XP at all...
