Hello.

Old router broke, borrowed a replacement.

Replacement works fine, except the one windows XP computer on the network can no longer connect (rest are win7, not sure if relevant).

XP pc sees the router, and other computers, but cannot access the internet.

This is driving me around the bend.

Any ideas will be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi,

Can you open a command prompt and post or pm the results of :

Code:
tracert 196.4.160.2

and

Code:
tracert www.google.co.za

from the offending machine - this will give us an idea of where to start looking for the problem.

Thanks.

Copa - its probably a DNS issue - do what Q-Tech advises above - if you get a reply on the IP - then its DNS and you simply need to manually input DNS in to the XP machines IP settings. If its not - well then you've ruled DNS out.

Sorted, that was the ticket.

Thanks all, you guys are kickass. :)

tracert google.co.za

The above result points to a dns issue - try to copy the dns server address off one of the working machines and configure the XP machine to use the same. Depending on the router model, it may even work to just set the dns server address to the router's IP address (looks like 10.0.0.2 from the tracert above)

Let us know how it goes
