Any idea if this can be done?

I have a pc running xp on my tv.

I do not want to use a media center on it just yet (but am currently playing with xmbc and considering loading this on the machine).
I also do not want to put this particular machine onto linux as my TV card has no linux driver support (very old card made by a company I don't think exists any more, I have to use a driver from another company that no longer exists to get the card working and after weeks of playing around I can not find anything to run it with besides showshifter 2 which I got free on a pcformat cd years ago).

All I would like to do is get the font size about double extra large and I will be happy with the machine as a media player.
I view everything in details mode anyway and have no interest in viewing in icon/preview mode.

Any suggestions?

Just a suggestion, install the Ubuntu fonts in XP and then enable font hinting/anti-aliasing or whatever it's called. Simple to do and there are guides on the net.

Makes the fonts on XP MUCH better!

Nice idea, may do it for the other machine but this machine needs to be as minimal as possible.

I just increased the DPI to 200 and now the fonts are just about perfect for my 42" LCD. I may make them a bit smaller though but think in the long run (after much more testing) I'll install XMBC and leave it at that.

Just been reading several people's issues about dark areas not coming out/showing very well in XMBC with certain movie types.

For what we do for now all I use is VLC for movies and Winamp for music.

Great idea Ponder, thanks I've just done as you suggested re Ubuntu fonts in XP and my entire computer experience has improved. Gold star to you!

Yeah it's quite remarkable how much of a difference it makes.
