I understand it should be fine for home use, obviously lol, but what about if I go to LAN's. I go to 40 people lan's once every three months or so.

I head there is a network limitation to Windows Home. We use DC++ to copy stuff not Windows Network, would that make a difference?

No XP home is 100% fine. You'll not find much differance between Pro and Home. Other than abit in perfomance, in regards to gaming (But its not much)

XP Professional and Home is huge marketing scam!

He's talking crap, there's no perfomance improvement in Professional.

It's just a marketing scheme, they call it professional so ppl who don't want to seem like PC amateurs buy it instead of Home which they consider to be made for computer beginners, it's a load of crap!

XP Professional:
Spanned Disks
Disk Quotas
Native Encryption

ermm I've got both versions, there's no performance improvements. Pro just seems to have added networking features as well as the features listed by Beta. It's M$'s way of branding and adding one or two small features so that the premium in price of one over the other seems justified.

I know, im just wondering why he says there is

And something to add to Beta's list: The ability to join a domain

Professional is really only aimed at businesses which have domains, but some people think having Home makes you look like an amateur, but that's why I guess they removed the "Home Edition" or "Professional" text from the boot screen in SP2

With HOME you cannot join a domain, load IIS, and you cannot install MS Backup. Other than that i dont think there is any other difference.

I'm relatively sure you can use MS Backup on Home too...

Oh and Pro also supports duel CPU's not just duel-core CPU's

Home does support *dual* processors (dual-core CPUs are seen as dual-processors by XP).

dual core CPU's are seen as two logical processors, just like Hyper-Threading but one physical processor, and Home only supports one physical processor, while with Pro you can have two physical processors.
