Hi there, I'm wanting to create some very light, non resource hungry virtual machines using Windows XP. What's the easiest way to go about? I'm aware of programs such as BartPE but I've never really done much research past that.

Any help appreciated, thanks.

You should sniff around some more. I have seen +-60MB Versions of XP running off a USB flashdisk. Now where did I see that again...

Mark Russinovich of SysInternals fame had a blog on what services you could stop in XP a while back.

Thanks guys. The services thing is more what I'm wanting to disable.

Download Tiny XP... It ain't legal AFAIK but if you have a legal version of XP I would not fret about it. :)

Have you perhaps looked at Nlite?

It slims down a Windows XP Installation ISO (There's one for Vista also), so you still need to install it but I use it regularly to integrate the latest updates and remove components I don't want, works great!

Just installed Tiny XP Beast Edition on a Dell Optiplex 745 .

2GB Ram
2.66GHZ C2D
160GB Sata2
Ati X600

Damn this is fast, I'm going to install it on my home PC.
