Hi all. Recently my mom's boss upgraded her PC and the techie who did the data transfer etc let me keep the old one which has a M$ license on the case which he has used for the OS on the new machine.

My question is: Because I cannot tear the certificate of authenticity off the side of the case, would I be able to contact Microsoft and ask them for a replacement Cert for my mom's boss?

No. The use to do it if you could prove that your license sticker was damaged. What is interesting is that the case with the certificate is the licensed PC. If M$ where to check up on your Moms workplace then they will claim that her PC is no longer licensed.

This is also why its a requirement for PC resellers to place the OEM/DSP sticker on the case. If they fail to do that then they risk losing their M$ partnership.

cbrunsdonza is correct there if the licence is DSP/OEM also your mom's Boss will have to go for Win7 on the new machine.

If it's a retail version (unlikely) then you can get a new COA no real problem.

It looks like it's OEM... It's a Mecer case and the COA says "Mecer/Poslflex" on it.

I think I'm going to have to find another XP license because I'm not sure if my mom can adapt to Win7.

Another option being using my Windows 7 Home Edition license and install Win7 on her Laptop at home and see how that goes.

There's no getting around it, she's going to have to adapt to win7 sooner or later.

My sister has adapted. My dad refuses. Guess my mom is gonna have to turn over to the future :D
