I havent tried out Windows XP with a quad core processor. After my recent loss of respect to Windows 7 driver issues, I was wondering of skipping 'ol Vista x64 and going back to the ancients.

Any input about Windows XP on a Intel q6600 CPU will be appreciated :>

What? You are one of a VERY small minority. There is not many driver issues in 7. Maybe just get rid of the hardware that have driver issues. LOL. Concerning the Xp on Q6600 question????? Rather odd. The CPU choice have little if any to do with your choice of OS. Apart from speed and performance. LOL.

I run XP on my Q6600 with no issues, all cores in use. I recently moved back from Win7 due to things not working. Much happier now.

I do not want to get rid of my Asus Xonar DX and I am merely asking how will XP handle my 4 cores.

Edit: Thanx for input Ponder :>

I ran XP 32 bit on my Q6600 and all I can say is DON'T DO IT. It ran slower than my 2.6 Athlon XP. Afterward I installed Vista 64bit and it worked like a charm, speed was just what I expected it to be and more. It runs even better with Windows 7 64bit. If you are not a Windows fanboi, I would say install Linux, I use it rather than Windows and its faster as well.

I had xp on my Q6600, no issues . Also recently installed it on a system with a Q8200. Btw no issues with windows 7 either.

I'm running windows 7 on my Quad Core Q8200 @ 2.33Ghz

Runs very nicely. No problems.

thanx for the input gaiz, it looks like im installing windows XP in ~10 minutes (downloading updated drivers)

I'll update any interesting findings thru my XP adventure :p

Oh my god, this must be the BS post of the year. Coming from a Linux user.

If you have the "nothing works after installing the Xonar drivers" problem, then you can fix it by installing the Vista patch version 1.0. It's dated 2009/06/16.

That is because 7 is just a number....

I'm rocking XP - Performance Edition, ..no reason whatsoever to change. Nice n speedy!

I used XP 32bit fine on a Q6600.

Just don't install XP 64bit. Endless driver issues :(
