K so I have a legit windows XP pro all nicely activated...Last night I take out my RAM and put in a friends to test if its working and when it get's into windows I get a message saying Windows has detected a hardware change and I must reactivate within 3 day so I click activate over internet and it says my key has been used too many times...Now I'm gonna have to phone these stupid people, what a waste of my time...

*END RANT

:D
Shame dude... I've noticed that from SP2 onwards, even if I added an extra hdd or used Daemon tools, I didn't have to reactivate again.... and then I decided to reinstall XP on that PC... "your key has been used too many times...."
But then again I have used it like 50 times :D

what is the point in asking people to reactivate? Am i missing something. Will your software magically go from being bought to counterfeit from putting in RAM?

The check is there so that people can't clone a hard-drive with a legit copy of XP and put it on a different machine.

Paranoid Software Developers.... The best solution is to get a cracked version, and if the police shows up at your home, you can tell them you have a legal copy.

Hmmm okay..but rather annoying feature for all those doing it legally.

Fooz the cops cannot asrrest you for pirated goods unless your selling them.

what you in for? Rape, u? Went onto Limewire :(
Though I wouldnt want a fake OS, it is the one thing you really want to be stable. Plus might as well just use a linux OS then.

I HATE stupid ms product activation! How to pi$$ off your paying customers and completely avoid the pirates.

Activation is a bitch, thats why I install cracked copies of XP on the machines I have (3 at the mo') and keep all my licenses, boxes and cd's/dvd's in a dark cupboard. They really cant do much if you have a legal right to use them, even if you are using a shady downloaded version.

I think...

I just find it really stupid that I can phone in and tell them the number, they'll read back a number and its activated...surely all this is is inconvenience, how are they stopping or preventing here? I mean they do ask if you have installed on more than 1 pc and you just tell them you upgraded your pc
