Windows XP: SP3 - Wireless network problems

Hey guys

Any of you with wireless network adapters had any problems connecting to your wireless network(s) since upgrading to SP3?

I have an HP Compaq 6820S and I can no longer connect to my Linksys WRT54G wirelessly. :(

My PS3 connects fine via wireless and none of my network settings have changed at all. I google'd it a little and found a few other people with the same problem. I even upgraded to a new version of the Intel PRO/Wireless Drivers, but that didn't help.

I can see my wireless network, connect to it but I have no internet access and I can't see any other computers on my network.

Pretty annoying. :rolleyes:
 
I actually just finished uninstalling SP3 and I'm back to SP2. Guess what? Wireless connection works perfectly now. :)

It would be nice if the problem could be resolved, as I'd prefer to be using the latest SP.
 
SP3 wifi works great on my W5F laptop. Also works great on 3GHz Prescott 2MB RAM media machine running MediaPortal. Both XP Pro+SP3.
 
There have generally been internet connection problems with many users using SP3. There are workarounds though :)
 
Check your router's Primary & Secondary DNS addresses it receives from your ISP.

Paste those DNS addresses in the TCP/IP fields of WinXP's network properties.

Voila.
 
Thanks guys. I'll look in to it over the weekend. I didn't have time last night, so downgrading to SP2 was the easiest option. :)
 
I had similar problems...fixed with Win Article #953650

Neither wired or wireless connections would work after upgrading to Win XP SP 3. I found a Windows Article about a service change for managing wired and wireless connections, Article ID # 953650. You must manually start the Wired AutoConfig service after installing SP 3, and then set it to automatically start at boot.

Apparently, In Windows XP SP 3, the WZCSVC funcitonality is divided into the following separate services as part of Network Access Protection (NAP) integration:
1) The WZCSVC services (manages wireless)
2) The Wired AutoConfig service (DOT3SVC) (wired...and configured as manual startup)

Here is the solution....
1) Click Start, and then click Run
2) In the Open box, type services.msc, and then pres ENTER.
3) Locate the Wired AutoConfig service, right-click it, and then click Start.
4) Now right-click again, and click Properties
5) In the General tab, select Automatic for the Startup type in the menu. This will allow the service to start automatically at boot.
6) Reboot your machine.

I have no idea why this fixed my wireless connection, but it did. It was an attempt to get wired working, so I could at least access the internet, and then fix the wireless. It fixed both for me. I hope it will work for you and many others.
