I'm about to reformat my hard drive which currently has windows XP. I have a lot of automatic updates installed on my system, i was wondering if there is a way of backing up or saving the updates to avoid redownloading them after i re-install windows

He might want to know how to burn them to CD.

Download them from the Microsoft site, save em to disk, alternatively,if you Control-Panel-Add remove programs-At the end of the list should are folders with long sets of numbers, those are them,Now with that I'm not sure about how to apply them, never done it.
LOL,sorry if I couldnt give you all the answers I just know it is defo possible,Microsoft really likes ppl who update ;)

what i want to now is, where do i find the actual setup files on my harddrive so i can burn them to cd, the updates are already installed on my system from the microsoft site...

i think i found them, but could be so wrong. change folder options to view hidden files and folders, look in windows folder the folder names all start with $, like i said,I MAY BE WRONG, just ran one and windows didnt die, so who knows

ya, maybe hey.... l'l have 2 c what happens after the reinstallation....

All the KB update files is under C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$ if c: is your root and system dir is windows. $hf_mig$ is a hidden folder. Then under the KB****** folders there is most of the time a update folder ,the install exe is in there.

RyanVM

This wont help with your updates, but certainly worth a look.

I found a great site other than Nlite which can also integrate hotfixes for you on a XP CD called RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack where they say,
"This pack is designed to bring a Windows XP CD with SP2 integrated fully up to date with all of the latest hotfixes released by Microsoft since SP2's release. It accomplishes this task via direct integration, where files on the CD are directly overwritten by the updated files"
