bdt,
Yup, you definitely make excellent points. I have just gotten so used to buying a piece of equipment which had the necessary XP drivers on it versus searching for a Linux driver (if required!).
I do run Ubuntu 6.06 dual-booted with XP. There are the one or two things that I miss when in Ubuntu that I find easier in XP to do, but I struggle on
Chandler looks stunning! I really didn't know about it at all. I have looked at Cinelerra before, but there was something about it's hardware requirements at the time that scared me away. OR, more likely, I didn't read properly. I was using a good package in XP at the time and could not find something for Linux.
As for the updates and security patches. Again, an excellent point. XP does download a *huge* amount. It also gives me the creeps over my capped line since I had to reinstall MCE three times this month with it downloading the same stuff three times!
I think the bottom line is a thing of how you look at the entire experience. Again, I am a Linux advocate, but I do miss my XP at times
