Hey all,

So I need to new wiper-blades, looks like those Durablades from Verimark are no longer sold, so I went to Builders and they don't seem to stock my size of blades .... I was actually hoping to just buy the "refill" type as my metal frames are firstly different sizes (left one is much bigger than right) and the left one has a wind deflector on it...

Any advice please?

What vehicle is it?

Check with the dealers how much they sell the wiper blade inserts for. I replaced mine last week and it costed me R330 for both sides and I reused the metal strips from the old blades. The blade + the metal frame that clips onto the arm would have costed R900 :wtf:

Yeah that was my problem - it's actually crazy how much the dealership wants for blades - R900 bucks for blade, frame and clips! The blades they sell at builders are R70!! Just don't have my size :(

Midas or Autozone Bru..

Yep, bought Bosch blades at midas the other day (and they fitted them) for R400. Also odd size left vs right. That makes it more expensive though.

autozone, they actually sell the entire thing,
wiper,metal and frame, even with odd sizes, they measure them and get them that way;

all should be around 200-300 unless you drive a metrobus:p

Thanks guys! I really want to try keep my metal frames as they have wind shields on them that the new ones don't seem to have...

As for a metrobus, I wish! Imagine the satisfaction of blocking a taxi with that beast!

Buy any kit that has bigger rubbers. Slide out old rubbers out of your current blades, replace with new rubbers, cut to size and crimp the little claws shut again. Been doing this for years.

Exactly what I want to do, but can't seem to find anywhere that sells just silicon blades (without the metal frame etc) - where do you get yours from MightyQuin?

I buy them at Midas. But as I explained, you do buy the whole kit not just the rubber. BUT, I buy the absolute cheapest set of wipers that they sell, regardless for what model or car. I drive a Land Rover where you pay more than a R1300 per wiper to replace with official part.

I did this quite a while ago but I paid something like R70 per wiper at Midas. Took out rubbers and binned the rest.

Ohhh, sorry got you... Yeah, so thought about doing that with the blades at Builders, but the biggest they had were 21" inches, and my one blade looks like its about 30"!

Measure your rubbers and go to Midas. They have a much bigger selection than Builders.

Enquire about buying the inserts only, they also tried to sell me the entire package and I clarified that I only wanted the refills/inserts.

You can compare the pricing at the dealers and Midas then decide. I wouldn't go with Champion wiper blades, Bosch is much better.

Why not invest in a pair of Bosch Aero Twins? They have a fitting to fit just about any type of wiper fitting.

I have bought for my cars over the past few years. It wipes cleaner and last longer than your standard wipers. Available at all Bosch outlets.

Chinatown sell Mtulu wiperblades in all sizes and works great for R35 a blade. Last replaced mine 2 years ago and still working with no streaking across the window. Spoke to a few of my colleagues that also bought them and everyone seems quite happy with theirs, and this is across a range of cars.

How much a pair?

I had Champion blades on my car, biggest load a of *** ever. Got some OEM ones from the dealer for about R400, still perfect two years later.

Rubbers and 30 inches....What we talking about here exactly
