Could someone explain to me how a South African wine, imported by a Russian distributor is sold in South Africa.

So it was made here, went to Russia and came back or more likely, was supposed to go to Russia but didn't.

SA exports a lot of wine. They already pre-label the bottles here before it is exported. But many times there is a oversupply and never gets exported, they then end up selling it locally to get rid of it. These would typically be sold on specials or by the wine wholesalers online.

Correct. Picked up a couple of bottles of wine destined for China at Ashton Cellars a while ago in their "bargain bin". It was an over run with Chinese labels and all.

SA wine, when exporting to other countries, print their labels for them. part of the service they offer

Seems odd that they would do it like that. Glass is heavy. Surely it would make more sense exporting it in bulk in a huge liquid container and bottle it cheaply in China?
