Was about the same time that I did the maths and came to the conclusion that a R5 J was much cheaper than going out to Night Fever with entrance fee and alcohol, and even better, I didn't have to get off the couch.
Lived at the Ascotts (Hayden RD) at the time, unit no. 2 next to the entrance, and my Sony hifi had lekker bass and I was still in my youth where I didn't give a crap about my neighbours feelings, and better yet, it wasn't a criminal offence back then if someone complained.
This I played the lp to death on my dads record player. As a 12 year old the robot voice had me hooked straight away:
There was a dual cassette player with record level adjustment with the knob and the christmas lights that turned red when the track started distorting which was fixed by turning the knob down and once the level was verified with the whole song, then you were set to record onto the 90min TDK cassette.
I had a step mother in those days (1988) and I was just coming into my manhood at that time where I had recently discovered the god given gift of the orgasm. Naturally, once it was discovered it was a super regular occurrence, so regular that I got too complacent and my step mom walking in on me rubbing one out, we both pretended it never happened and life carried on.
She eventually gave my dad an ultimatum 8 years later when I matriculated where she said either he goes or I go, so I left home when I matriculated.
About 10 years later, she still left him.
The only good thing I remember about my step mom was that she made a killer cheese cake (the fridge cake kind, the one I like).
