WIOCC is an African company set up as a vehicle for investment in the EASSy submarine cable system, with its offices in Nairobi, Kenya.
WIOCC is jointly funded by a grouping of 14 African telecoms operators, all first or second operators in their respective countries, and a number of global Development Financial Institutions.
As well as serving EASSy's 9 seaboard countries, WIOCC is using its shareholders' extensive national networks to bring services from EASSy's coastal landing stations to major cities in each country.
Collaborative construction of these backhaul systems - resilient, fibre-optic rings based on dark fibre pricing - means landlocked countries will have virtually the same cost base as coastal countries for
the first time.
WIOCC is also extending services beyond the EASSy network by establishing interconnection agreements with major international carriers.
WIOCC offers a one-stop-shop capability providing carriers, service providers, governments and other high high capacity users with cost-effective, reliable and seamless connectivity to the world's
key commercial and financial centres.
Uniquely, WIOCC connects to multiple systems to provide diversity across the high risk areas of the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.
International carriers meet WIOCC at our hubs in Port Sudan, Djibouti, Mombasa or Mtunzini for onward connectivity into Africa.
