Wiper motor spit braai?

Hoping someone here has some experience with this as I have a few questions.

When using a wiper motor for a spit braai how much current does the motor draw? I know the current draw is dependant on the load(weight)/torque experienced so lets say we got a 40-50kg carcass and the motor is geared to run at about 4-5rpm?

Just trying to figure out if a 12V@8A transformer will be sufficient?

Oh, and if you have any plans & suggestions on building one of these sacrificial meat altars feel free to post whatever

Why use a wiper motor ?

Go to any Makro/Builders and you can get a spit braai motor that uses batteries. Those things are really powerful as well.

Last time I played with windscreen wipers motors the current draw was about 1 to 2 Amps with no load but I guess it all depends on the motor. I should imagine the motors used in buses and trucks would be a lot more heavy duty.
If the carcass is well balanced the load should be low but that's unlikely.

Probably but don't forget that you also need to rectify the AC output of the transformer to get DC.
Full wave, bridge rectifiers will drop the voltage by about 1.4V so ideally you'd want a transformer that puts out about 14V.

If you want a long lasting setup rather go with an AC induction motor run off the mains.
Windscreen wiper motors use brushes which do not last forever due to arcing from the EMF generated by the motor coils.
With an induction motor setup:
- The motor will last for many years running continually
- You don't need a transformer
- You don't need a full wave bridge rectifier
