Wireless 1024K, Uncapped, R497 pm, Seriously?

Guys - just be weary when dealing with WISPs.

The industry's track record has not been good - and more often than not - they rely very much on our desperation to ditch Telkom in favour of a "better" solution ... which unfortunately often turns out not to be the case ..

Hmm Ja another Uninet! :mad: It's a similiar thing. Wireless using a dodgy Telkom solution DSL, that's bugging me,R1100 for an installation of equipment that doesn't belong to you, so that's also bothering me.

It's ok I guess except for the following:

I'm not comfortable paying R1100 for an installation of equipment that doesn't belong to me. *I guess the upside is that if there's newer equipment they are obliged to come and change it, at no charge :D*

As above, not comforatble using a solution running a flawed Telkom product in the background.Can the excellent service levels be guaranteed from Telkom?We all know the service there....Dependencies on the third party provider is an issue that is problably uncontrollable.

Not happy going for a solution that's wireless and is completely an immobile solution.I can hotspot my home fine.... but that's pretty much it.Considering it's a Telkom DSL in the background is there T-Zone access granted if I happen to have my laptop with me and unfortunately want to go sit at a coffee shop (which I would never do ,but hyperthetically speaking)


so.ja I thought about it last night and nah.....not interested.But thanks though.:D

I don't think it ever does become your equipment :confused:

although not having to wait or deal with Telkom in any way *directly* can be a bonus I guess.....

Guys, the whole thing about the equipment not belonging to you is a legal thing.
If you were connecting to their network with your own equipment, it would be even more illegal than connecting with theirs.

If its their equipment, they can argue that you're "part" of their network. Whereas, if it were your equipment, it'll be seen as providing a service to someone not "part" of them.

They'll argue that it is, most will argue that it isn't.
There are strong cases for both sides, mostly involving interpretations of the same regulation.

But it still doesn't hurt trying to keep it clean from all aspects :)

I don't think so. The fact is that they are a legal service provider using the spare bandwidth they have left to provide a service to more users. They are only doing what Telkom is doing with their existing users. The reason the equipment is not yours is because it's high quality and very expensive in order to keep the network up to standard. If you want the equipment to be yours then by all means ask them to sell it to you at the tens of thousands of rands that they pay for it. That part of the agreement is not unfair imo. If you're looking for cheap equipment that you can afford to own then go with Sentech. I'm sure you will be very happy with the speeds you'll get. :rolleyes:
 
daffy is right - by law they have to own both sides of the link, although you might be able to argue that just the wireless card is enough

the cost per CPE would be between 1200-2000 not tens of thousands

Off topic:

Of course you do know that for about R200 you can get someone to airmail you about 25GB of the newest fansubs, all burnt on top of the range DVD-R's.
25GB of data = 50GB of bittorrent traffic. So why bother downloading anime? This not only saves you a few bucks, but the most important resource, time.

OK so big question *off topic* how did that work out for you? You get your 25GB's of fansubs? How long did the airmail take for delivery? Who delivers?Door to Door? Do you collect at post office?

They have to own both sides, what kind of license is this? Sentech/iBurst/Telkom/Vodacom/MTN don't enforce that so what's the license differences and implications then? This doesn't sound very promising, sounds to me like a similar Uninet setup Wireless DSL and according most of my buddies that sucked! Still does.So what gives...where's the exclusiv biz dude....more info please
