Hey All

I have recently purchased a DLink DWL-2100AP .I didnt realise it only had 1 network port.Stupid me but I was fooling around on Bid or Buy !!

My dilemma is that i want to connect my IBurst UTD modem via network cable to this device and then to my XBOX .All other devices like laptop can connect wirelessly.I know that this device can inititate the connection however since it only has one network port how can it get to the XBOX without me buying a wireless card?

Is it possible to somehow connect a switch ,plug the Iburst ,XBOX and DLINK on the switch, then tell the Dlink to use that port that has the IBurst connected to intitiate the connection? Therefore all devices including XBOX that is plugged on the XBOX will have connectivity.

Sounds a bit confusing

Please help:confused:

Hi,

Unfortunately you have the wrong device for the job.

You need a router with a WAN port like the DLink DI-624 I have at my place.

The router can do PPPoE connections which is required to initiate the iburst connection. It then shares it via wireless or wired network.

The access point you have there can't do this. Its basically just a dummy port which makes a wired network point into wireless, just passes through information.

Hope you can return it or didn't pay a lot for it.

Thanks.I have managed to call them and possibly will be purchasing the TP-LINKWR741ND today.Spoke to a tech and he confirmed that this will be the suitable one for home.Quoted me around R318.

Will update once installed
