Do any of you experts have advice on Adsl Wireless Routers for home use? Am contemplating buying DLink DSL G 604 T. I have single laptop. Many thanks. Sorella :o

Heya. I also recommend netgear dg 834g. I have a Dlink now, and the config interface is terrible compared to Netgear.

I have a LinkSys wireless gateway. It is very easy to setup and has a built in modem as well as a firewall and DHCP server. It also has 4 ethernet ports to compliment the wireless connectivity.

Normally all ADSL routers have DHCP, firewall, 4 ethernet ports :)
BTW does Linksys have the dynamic DNS service buildt in like Netgear has? Since that really is a nice feature.

So does the NetGear 834G. It owns. NETGEAR!

It also has the modem built in, which means you don't need to have a machine that is connected with a shared connection, as soon as the connection is dropped it will dial-in automatically which makes it ideal if you want to host a site at home.

It also allows port forwarding and allows you to setup a VPN.

You guys. I am a female and don't understand technicalities! Checked UK website and their preference is Netgear 834 and then Linksys WAG 546. There is a huge price difference. Any negative reports on Linksys which is almost 50% cheaper?
Is it true that Telkom is coming up with Adsl 192???

LinkSys is 50% cheaper depending on where you buy it. If you go to a very well known computer store is the same price as the NetGear!

Please advise very well known computer store where price is same i.e. Linksys vs. Netgear. Can e-mail me privately.

Thanks Senior Member.

Blackdot were offering a special on the DSG834 (which I use and love) with their adsl packages.

If your looking for modem/router that is easy to configure I would recommend the Netgear, that said I have no exposure to the LinkSys or DLink routers. I have 2 laptops running on the wireless protocol and my desktop via the ethernet port using DHCP and port forwarding for my games, not a days problems. :D

I would go for the BILLION 7100G wireless 4-port modem/router.

This device is very easy to install with a quick start setup, IPSEC VPN, Parental Control with URL Content Filtering, DDNS, Firewall Security etc.

You can get it on DigitalPlanet.co.za for R1,079! I recon this is the best price you'll get.

Uniterm Direct sells the Linksys WRT54G for R575 ex vat.
Out of the box, its pretty powerful and packed full of features.

For a little bit extra, they'll up load the Sveasoft firmware to it too! (http://www.sveasoft.com/)

edit: www.dbg.co.za is where you can find Uniterm Direct's contact details.

That is half the price other firms quote. Thanks a lot for this lead. Will follow-up today.

You're right but at least the price is somewhat better. How slow is 192?? I am used to speed of 52.0kbps!!!
