As I say, I'm completely uninformed on electricity. Truth be told, it scares the craap out of me.

Anyway, I picked up a wireless charger for my iPhone 8 and it came with just a USB cable and no plug. Looking at the leaflet with the charger, it says the output is rated at 9V - 1.3A / 5V - 1A. It says it's a fast charger so I'm assuming these numbers reflect fast charging and normal charging.

So plugging the wireless charger into my iPhone USB plug it doesn't seem to get enough power and although it starts to charge, after a minute the light blinks repeatedly and doesn't charge anymore. In my n00b investigations, I assume this is because the plug output is rated at 1A and with the leather case on my phone, maybe it's not strong enough to charge it properly?!?!?.

However, using a different USB plug from a JBL speaker rated at 2.3A, it works and charges fine with the leather case on.

Question for clever people -

1. Are my assumptions correct about the plug ratings and why it charges with one and not the other?

2. Will this higher output of 2.3A damage the phone in any way if I continue to charge it this way every night?

3. Any other suggestions of a better plug with a different rating will be gratefully accepted.

Don't you need to buy the higher amp charger separately?

Do you mean the plug for the charger? It didn’t come with one and I was going to continue to use the one from my JBL speaker I mentioned above.

I’m basically just wondering if my assumptions are correct and I’m not going to blow my phone up.

Should be fine. The charging pad will draw what it needs, not more.

you need 7.5W of output to do fast-charge on the iPhone 8/10 and keep in mind it will never be faster than the cable charging with an apple charger plug.

Also, you cant blow it up wirelessly unless you had some kind of super electro-magnet going which I doubt a 1.5-2W wall charger is gonna do :)

Does it sound right to you that the 1A plug wouldn't provide enough power?

Good to know :p
