I guys - I've got a Netgear DG834GT adsl wireless router and a spare Gigabyte gn-b41g wireless router -

I'd like to wirelessly connect my gigabyte router to the netgear, and have an ethernet media player and an xbox 360 on the other side of the house plug into the gigabyte's lan ports.

Both routers support WDS in their latest firmwares but I haven't been able to get it working. It's just lots of guesswork because there's little to no documentation on gigabyte or netgear WDS anywhere.

Does the main router (netgear) need to be aware of the gigabyte? Would a router linked via WDS be able to share the connection through the ethernet ports or is WDS just for wireless repeating.

Has anyone got experience in this - I know the best way would be to put openwrt on the gigabyte and run it in "client mode" but alas - it seems that none of the gigabyte routers are supported.

Anyway - just thought I'd ask, just in case someone's done something similar.

Any thoughts are welcome,

thanks

I did find this online, don't know how good it will be for you or if it even means something.

Note: The WDS feature is not completely specified in IEEE or Wifi standards. Therefore interoperability between 802.11 products of different vendors is not guaranteed.

yeah - I've researched the wds wiki and the openwrt wiki's got a bit of info so I have read that...

it's gonna be difficult if not impossible because the two routers wds interfaces are so different but I am just chancing it in case someone else owns a gigabyte router they are running as a bridge or maybe someone who knows a bit more than I do can just toss a few words of advice because I'm kinda running in the dark...
