Guys,

I have a Netgear DGN-2000 router, which according to the manual is capable of connecting via wireless to PC's at 300Mbps.

I have two machines with wireless-N cards, but cannot get them to connect at faster than about 65Mbps. They are practically next to the router.

I was also told (lied to) by the salesman that this router can connect at 1Gbps wired. Yeah right...

Can someone please point me in the right direction?

What is the frequency that you are using, you normally need to connect at 5GHz to get 300Mbps. 2.4GHz is slower.

If its intel chipset wifi cards then you are out of luck. They only do 20mhz channel width and you need 40mhz.

Also ensure your encryption is set to AES.

If all these requirements are met also remember that 300mbps is theoretical if both router & card is the same chipset. Not the salesman, its the manufacturer.
And most of the new routers can do 1000mbps (or 1Gbps) on lan interfaces.

Quoting the website "For maximum throughput use in conjunction with Netgear RangeMax Recievers"

Then how do I get the 1Gbps enabled? Any ideas? I can understand on the wireless issue, will check the chipsets etc. tonight. But I was really hoping for the 1Gbps fixed line comms

Ensure that your LAN card on the PC or laptop is a gigabit adapter. If not then you will only get 100mbps (and I suspect that that is the problem here)

Strongs buddy...

Just remember that you also require CAT5e/CAT6 (CAT6 is preferred) cables to be able to connect at 1Gbps.

That router doesn't support 1Gbps wired connection. The netgear website says it does but in reality it doesn't.

Hehe. I can't find anything on NetGear's website that states that the router is a 1Gbps router either. To be honest, I can't find any info on its RJ-45 ports.

Me neither...better stick to linksys or dlink.

make sure the Wifi button on the side is set to wireless N - lolz

EDIT: login to the router @ 192.168.0.1 and there is an option to set the speed eg. like 65 or 300 etc for wireless

AFAIK you need two MIMO data streams (ie two radios -> two antennae) for 300Mb/s wireless on both devices. Keep in mind that this a theoretical maximum. The maximum for 802.11g is 54Mb/s and since you're connecting at 65Mb/s you're using 802.11n so make sure your router is broadcasting in the 40Mhz bandwidth slot as opposed to 20Mhz. Check the manual for the configuration address for your router (try http://192.168.1.1/). You should be able to connect at 150Mb/s
