Looking for some advice on the following setup if someone has perhaps done this before.

Main lounge TV connected to DSTV decoder to duplicate the display to another TV sitting in entertainment area about 20m away via a wireless HDMI extender/receiver

Reason is, I don't know.. trying to help a friend that wants this setup..

I would just get a TV with DSTV app for another room etc or run cables but for whatever reason this is not possible atm.

So, is this possible? Will put in a HDMI splitter at DSTV decoder. One HDMI cable will go into TV, then other HDMI slot will have a wireless HDMI dongle with entertainment area having another HDMI wireless dongle receiver, and this should then duplicate the display that is on in the main lounge TV area?
Something like this?

Theoretically I don't see why not, so long as the splitter supports HDCP.

Would I ever do something like this? Not a chance, run cables whenever possible, it will be way more reliable.

Hope it works, cause the latest Explora decoder doesn't even like hdmi cables that long. It's a flaw and installers now try to place the unit as close to the TV as possible.

In my experience, unless you're investing in a higher end quality/branded wireless hdmi setup, don't have great expectations!! Especially with a 20m range...

Yeah I figured that much. Was hoping someone here have tried this and could point me in the right product direction because these things are going for anything from R1k to R5K.

Well the splitter will sit right next to the decoder. It is whether the HDMI receiver will work from the splitter to the Tv in the other room

Does he already have an Extraview decoder? It's a once off cost (nothing extra monthly) and then he'd have two separate viewing environments. Note that with Explora 3 and later, both decoders must be connected to the same dish as the heartbeat signal runs via the LNB.
For long HDMI cable runs, an HDMI over ethernet adapter will work out cheaper.
But as Toxicbunny has stated, HDCP might be a problem. If memory serves, the decoder will refuse to output full HD if it does not recognize the devices connected to it. You know how MC feels about piracy...

I think the main reason for this, is that he does not want to run cables if necessary. It is very "architecty" house which means not conventional roof to run cables and a lot of glass walls etc

+1

Having spent a bit of time in production environment, I'm yet to see anything worthwhile in terms of wireless HDMI. Even with wired HDMI over LAN the cheaper solutions are mostly hit and miss.

Yeah, I used to run some HDMI over ethernet extenders at home, and they'd work fine 95% of the time, but that 5% when they wouldn't was frustrating as all fscking hell.

Kramer KW-14T/R or KW-11 T/R would work perfectly, ball park cost around 10k though.

According to my experience in extending DSTV to wireless or wired displays, it's not possible without paying for extra view on MultoChoice. The secondary screen might be connected correctly but the content won't be shown. You will just see a black display but the audio will be there that's how protected the DSTV is. I hope this does not discourage anyone for doing more research.

Could possibly work if your spitter and extender are above average, The one in your picture will give you grief soon enough
Will put in a HDMI splitter at DSTV decoder.
I would suggest you take the HDMI from the decoder and plug it into the Transmitter and on the other end, the Receiver HDMI plugs into the splitter input, and then distribute video to TV locations, also keep in mind that HDMI cables coming from the splitter needs to be kept as a minimum as that brand of splitter is meh
Something like this?
If the budget is no issue then go for a Kramer setup for the spitter and the extenders if the budget is tight then go for HDanywhere XTND 2K.

If you do end up going the wired route look for an extender that has HDMI loop out. That way you won't need an additional splitter in the mix.
