I Have successfuly setup my Netgear DG-834G wireless router for ADSL on this XP PC via the ethernet cable.

I have an old 98 laptop and Samsung Magiclan 11Mbps PCMCIA card which I have installed in the laptop.

The router can see the card in its Access List.
How do I get the card communicating with this PC?

I have set up IP addresses in the 192.168.10.xxx range on both PC's and also changed the router IP address to the same range.

Laptop shows the card as connected (using ADHOC mode but not using Infrastructure mode) but I cant get any coms to work and this PC cant see the laptop as part of the network. All security is off and the two wireless devices are on the same channel.

All I really want to achieve is to get the laptop to share the ADSL connection wirelessly!!

I know that these network issues can be hard to explain in a forum but any pointers would be appreciated.

Is the router configured to run DHCP? If so, what address does the laptop get from the router?

When configuring a static address on the 98 machine, remember to specify the default gateway and DNS servers.

From the info you've given:

If you are using an older wireless card check that the AP (router) is set to mixed mode, or it won't communicate at the slower speed.

As far as I know ( correct if wrong please) you need to setup the client side in infrastructure mode, not ad hoc, to connect to an AP.

Also, if you're using security settings (Hope u are) check that your keys match and that types are the same.

Hope it helps,

PDerek
