I have a notebook with wi-fi and buying a new one end of jan. My phone (i780) also have wi-fi. I want to setup a wireless network at home between the 3. What do I need? Would I need a router? Just a home network. Not for internet connectivity.

It would be something like this:

not cheap - 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless 54Mbps 802.11g Lan Access Point

cheap - Dlink Wireless Access Point (32mW Max Power Output)

NP.

you also get 108Mbps AP's, though first check the lowest common denominator (would be the phone) and if it's 802.11 a or b or g

The one to get will be a normal 54G AP. The phone wont do 108mb and I seriously doubt your other devices will either. Its pretty simple from there, the DHCP on the AP will pretty much do everything for you.

Dont worry everyone was a n00b at some stage.
The AP or access point contains software that you can access through your web browser. You use it to setup the keys for wireless security and the SSID(name you will see when searching for network)
It will also allow you to setup DHCP which is used to give each device an IP address so that they are all on the same network and visible to each other.

You could try creating an ad-hoc network which is alot more difficult and doesnt work as well. I would recommend just finding the cheapest AP that you can, it only needs to be able to do 802.11b (11mb) and 802.11g (54mb)

If you need more info just ask here and I will help you out.

Thanx. A friend maby has a router lying around. Will find out what it is. Thanx. Im trying to learn as much as I can. ant to get into computers. Where can I get tutorial on programming and such, do you maby know?

The more you learn the more you'll learn what you don't know.

Drake hit that one right on the head!!
The more you learn the more you will see that there is to learn and how much harder it gets...
Programming you say? what kind of programming? web stuff? Object orientated?
You want free languages or the ones you have to pay for? There is no simple thing here im afraid, IT has more variety anything else.
