Scotty, I think iBurst is only in Gauteng at the moment. Which really does suck, cause I would like to see iBurst Dominating instead of some other companies...(telcom)

Firstly dont get Sintech....even if it comes to your area.

Secondly, iBurst aren't having any roll-out plans for all of the Western Cape.

Running around, catching a cheetah (without a gun) is like resistance against Telkom - futile.

I would never go with sentech and have any of u guys seen the new sentech ad, SOON TO BE DOING VOICE, ha wireless fone calls

Why don't you want ADSL ?
It's damn fantastic - aside from the cap and the cost - but then, it's only max R150 more than the 128k sentech offering for a 384 line. (with the new line rental increases) - the speed I've got so far is 10 times faster than MyWireless - been averaging over 30kb/s normal surfing/downloading.

Sure, Telkom are screwing people over - but so are Sentech and iBurst - Sentech is just no good for power users, iBurst looks like it's going to be too costly, considering they are also implementing a 3gig cap next year + the modem is expensive - unless you sign up for a lengthy contract.

I was dead set against getting a land-line in my rented cottage, but the crappy MyWireless I had forced me to reconsider and on my second day of 384 connectivity, it's so much better.

I may think otherwise in a month - but the cool thing is, since I bought my own modem/router, I'm on a month by month contract, so I can just can the line when something better comes along.

That's what convinced me - no contract, freedom to drop ADSL anytime I like.

Vat hom Fluffy!

What the hell is 3g?

And ic, Think of it this way. If iBurst start dominating, telcom will be forced to lower their rates because they don't want to lose all their customers. Then all the non permanent connectioners, like me, won't have to pay so much. Think about that.

Hi Scott,

There are no wireless ISP's in Hout Bay, because of the mountains, and ADSL is only available to About half of the valley due to the Fiber Optic lines to the newer estates. Telkom were working on the DSLAM last weekend so they may have upgraded it (Although my speeds have been erratic all week) to allow more connections.

The Tower at the High School, that was contested by the HBRPA/HBRA, was to be a Sentech repeater to cover Hout Bay, but that is effectively blocked now.

If you need a mobile connection, the mountain blocks the WISPS so we will have to wait for 3G. I occasionally use GPRS but it is too expensive for daily use. If you only need a static connection your best bet is to apply for ADSL but not on a contract basis.

You could also try war driving, I have found several wifi nets with ADSL connections in the valley. [;)]

Cheers
Chris
