If you have to recommend a Wireless keyboard and mouse, would you recommend:

1.Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 1000 or
2.Logitech Cordless Desktop EX 110.

And please state why you would recommend the one over the other.
Happy New Year and Thanks!

My advice is never buy a wireless mouse, they are heavy and nasty things.

Wireless keyboard is awesome but OMG the mice are horrid. Is there a reason you want wireless as opposed to wired?

Just don't buy cheap. @killadoob, I've had wireless mice and I've had no problems with except for changing batteries every few months.

yea don't buy cheap - nothing wrong with my wireless Mouse - I've taken the MX5500 logitech - mouse comes with a recharge cradle - love my mouse!

Doesn't matter. Both produce good keyboards & mice. On balance I'd take a logitech though.

The logitech dongle docking station is very nice if you want to use the same combo for a desktop and laptop. Like this: http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/05/uk-electronics/shops/logitech/wave_usb_receiver.jpg

I'd also go for one wich uses AA batteries. Combine that with a uniross rechargable battery kit. I'm a bit skeptical about the ones with built-in batteries. Battery life on rechargables naturally declines with use. With AA rechargeable batteries one can always replace them if necessary. Not so easy with built-in batteries. Keyboard battery use is negligible.

Also, make sure the mouse fits in your hand well. Mine doesn't.:(

That's the wrong dongle for the Logitech Cordless Desktop EX 110.

This is the correct one.

I like the new Unifying Receiver.

Yup. The picture was chosen to illustrate a dongle&docking station that can be removed easily without crawling behind the PC.

Your right in that it is OT if he is determined to only consider the two models in OP.

I now have a Logitech wireless mouse and a wireless keyboard both using similar dongles. Have to admit, I still prefer the Logitech bluetooth solution. It just seems there's less hassle with lag, etc. A bit of mission to get their bluetooth software to work, but it depends on the OS you use. Win7 works fine with it.

If only Logitech sold the bluetooth mouse from the MX5500 separately. :P

Logitech Cordless Desktop EX 110

This has the worst mouse i have ever used in my life. Maybe i find it shocking going from a razer light mouse to cheap piece of heavy rubbish :D. The keyboard is awesome though but that mouse . I use a wired 50 buck mouse now rather.

I got a query too guys, i currently use a cheap labtech wireless desktop (was about R270) and has served me well thus far. But i have a problem with range... I just got a 47" lcd and i have to sit around 3m away from the screen. Anyone got recommendations of something i can use from around this range as the labtech only goes around a meter...

Like I said, don't buy cheap lol. I've used the mouse from the Logitech Cordless Desktop EX 110 and it is pretty useless like you said.

I would suggest Cordless Desktop® MX™ 5500 Revolution as it is Bluetooth.

then do i need to get another bluetooth dongle? Cos i sold my old one :(

I'm looking for a compact wireless keyboard with built in mouse for my media centre PC, any ideas?

I wouldn't usually recommend cheap but the iSonic wireless mouse + keyboard combo has been doing the job for me for a while now - and only paid R180. The mouse is lighter then most wireless mice and has about a 4m range from what I've tested. Keyboard works great.
