Hi all - just got a 128 package and so far I'm quite happy.

I have an iMac (OSX Panther), a laptop (Win XP) that's wireless enabled, as well as a USB MyWireless modem.

Now I'm thinking of getting a wireless router (something like Apple's Airport Express) and then I want to connect the whole shebang to form a wireless LAN with both the iMac and laptop sharing the internet connection that the MyWireless modem is providing, wirelessly [:)].

I got a Fastcomm ethernet cable today to try and get the iMac to use the modem so long, but I'll propably get an Airport card for the iMac.

Now all I need is some instructions/directions on precisely how to make all this work (I'm a Java developer - NOT a sysadmin type unfortunately - so my knowledge of these things is quite limited [:D]).

Thanx in advance - hope this is the right forum!!

Johnny, you might want visit the Airport forum at for some useful information:

EDIT: I can't get the above url to display properly. I suggest you copy an paste it to your browser to work.

Your ethernet cable can be used with the Airport with PPPoE.

I experienced some problems connecting to the Airport after long periods of inactivity, but updating the Airport to the latest firmware resolved that. The current Airports in South Africa are still being shipped with the outdated firmware.

The Airport does the job for me on my network with Windows PCs, but I would have liked better port mapping features on it though.

Thanx Anakin - I'll prolly get the hardware this week sometime and I'll post any interesting/challenging bits that cropped up during setup back here.

Should not be a problem... I have a Airport Extreme, and it works great as my DHCP/DNS server with all the bells. I'll never look at ICS in win32/linux again...
:)

Dunno about all the support on the Express tho... but it will handle the modem, that is sure...

Send me a message if you need more info.

Could you get the MyWireless to work with Airport Express

Hi

I'm trying to connect an IPWireless modem via PPPoE - but only get "Looking for PPPoE host...".
I've done some reading of other postings, but none are working. Obviously I've tried and tested the Airport Admin Utility settings - and the modem works fine when connected directly (or on network switch) to the PowerBook, iMac or iBook.

There are only 2 things it could be. Maybe someone can help:

1. One posting says that the modem may need to be connected via a cross-over cable. But since the cable from the modem is a bespoke cable, I don't really have the option to change.

2. I had a similar issue before when using Vicom software to connected via the IPWireless. This was solved by increasing the "retry connection timeout", as the software was retrying before the connection was complete. Could this be the issue with the AE PPPoE connection? And is there a way of increasing the amount of time the script tries to connect before it retries?

I tested the Airport Express & MyWireless on a network switch. The AE still could not connect via PPPoE.

So I'm stuck.
So why doesn't the Airport Express make the connection via PPPoE?
Have you managed to get yours connected?

Regards
Ulric
