Hello ,

Telkom just installed my new adsl line the weekend , they provided me with a D-link router. Seems though there is some problem with the router as it keeps dropping the line for about a few secs and then reconnecting. It was not so noticeable in the beginning but its really crappy when playing online (xbox live). Initially I thought it was the line disconnecting but today I fiddled a bit on the router and noticed that there is quiet a bit of errors on the wireless interfaces. Could this be the reason why I keep losing connection and what can I do to fix it ?

I think Telkom provide the DSL-2750U router.

I have that router, just not telkom branded. I moaned about it on D-links forum and someone helped me. Link is here.

From what I remember I had to change the wireless bandwidth. I did that about a year and a half ago, haven't had problems since.

The 2750U is notorious for being dodgy. Perhaps try swap it out for starters... This is unfortunately the difference between cheap consumer WiFi and enterprise WiFi. Depending on how heavily you use WiFi, I guess it won't bug you as much as it does me.

Yes, because people don't understand how to sort out minor issues - like this one.

As I've said, I fixed that one problem I had and I've had no problems at all for more than a year.

Sure sorted out my D Link issue too - Got a Netgear :D:D

Got a DSL-2750U aswell. Been using it for more than 2years without any problem.

I am with WebAfrica. The problem is not with the router itself, but the settings. For some reason all D-Link router's DNS settings has been reset in the last few days. Log into the router and make sure the DNS settings is correct, or give you service provider a call and let them guide you through it.

Refer to attached image for correct settings. Note: Different service providers might use different settings. As mentioned, I am with WebAfrica.Untitled.jpg

there is something wrong with the router if you must force it to only use 20MHz to work.

you achieve higher throughput with 40MHz, used for N(300) or AC...

either that, or your receiver, on other words you laptop or wireless dongle, is a legacy device and can only use 20MHz width. so when the router jumps to 40MHz your side drops connection... etc..

Thanks guys ! Trying various settings , read somewhere that cordless devices can interfere with the wifi and I have a corldless phone and vodacom booster in my house. Lets hope I can get 1 decent BF4 session in tonight lol

That's probably right.

When I had the problems, I had a new Wireless N card connecting to it from my desktop, my phone (Galaxy S2 - Wireless N) and my laptop (Wireless G). Might have been my laptop bringing everything down.

Everything would drop at once, became a pain, so I'll happily suffer with low throughput so I don't get dropped all the time.

I have a cordless phone someone got me from overseas, it uses 2.4MHz channels, which is a pain in the butt because it does interfere, so now its just lying in the cupboard. cant manually set the channels on most of these phones. didn't bother buying 5GHz.

if you bought your cordless phone over the counter in SA, it should be icasa approved and should not interfere with normal wifi channels.

check your phone to see if it mentions 2.4GHz it will say so if it uses it, if it says nothing don't worry about it its not the phone.

what Vodacom booster are you talking about, cellphones do no use the same frequency as the wifi we are talking about, it should have no effect.

Hey guys

I have similar problem. I cant seem to use my wifi with my iphone. I would maybe load a page but when I click on a link on the page or twitter link it just goes to say no internet connection.

I have also noticed that I occasionally get a problem with my Smart TV when it try downloading an app from the app store and the TV looses the connection every time I switch the tv on.

I have the same Telkom DLink Router. Do you guys think that by doing the change as per Mr_Morris suggestion will do the trick.

Also I noticed when I go to the advanced wireless setting and click on Bandwidth I get 3 options. 20MHz in Both Bands, 40MHz in Both Bands and 20MHz in 2.4G and 40Mhz in 5G Band. I am guessing that I should go with the first one.

Suggestions one another brand of router if I should decide to replace my current one.

What brands would you suggest Netgear or Belkin?

Thanks

This bloody Telkom modem is the pits man !! I tried so many things and the link keeps dropping FFS. Think the best option is too buy another dam router !!!

Hey Man!

I've got the 2750u aswell, however not through telkom. I had the exact same issue, if I overloaded the router with streaming - it would completely crash.

I fixed it by upgrading to the latest stock firmware here :) ftp://ftp.d-link.co.za/dsl2750u (Retail)/Firmware/Retail Version/Hardware Version T/T1/

Just make sure you router is T1 before flashing :)
