Wireless Modem Choices?

Hi,

I've just ordered my SIO ADSL and have a question about modems:
We want to set up a wireless network at home for the laptops, but are also interested in VOIP (keeping it as simple to use as we can!).

Telkom confirmed that I'd have to sell my soul for 24 months (and get locked in to a price point for 2 years! is that right?!) to get a free modem from them. They do offer some modems that I can pay off over a year (cool, free credit!).

Should I take any of their modems, or perhaps buy my own somewhere else? Any suggestions?

Thanks for helping out a soon to be ADSL newbie! :o

Cheers

Welcome "almost ADSL Newbie"

Just don't sign on the dotted line for a 24 month contract.
Rather buy a router elsewhere(secondhand) and go for month to month contract.

Yes, purchase a modem separately and sign up for month to month contracts with ISP of your choice which gives you control and choices because you never know which Internet connection will work for you better before those 24 months are up. Don't get tied down for 24 months.

Contracts are only advised if you want Uncapped Business ADSL which comes with free Cisco Routers plus 5 Static IP's which makes it worth while but they also only 12 month contracts.

Belkom Wireless Routers (N Grade) are quite good. Marconi(I hope I got the name right) are good but Belkin is preferred one for me.
