I am looking to build a wireless network bridge for streaming movies and music to my xbox, It will have to be based on the n-standard ?

Can anyone recomened the hardware I would need to do this, Cheap if possible ?

Will al the information out there aboutn stuff I am struggling to find a definitive solution

problem is that is a router and not a bridge...

Apparently its not possible to use a wireless router as a bridge for an existing AP... :(

I'm using a stock standard Linksys WRT54G as a wireless bridge. All you need to do is load up decent 3rd party firmware like DDWRT and then it's just a matter of setting the router up as a client wireless bridge.

Basically, my primary router is connected to my PC on the other side of the house and streams all my movies/music etc. to the secondary router i.e. the bridge and it works perfectly. The 360 even gets it's internet connection from the primary AP...

Oh right, thought xbox already had wireless and OP needed a router to "bridge" from existing wired network to wireless. There's an xbox "N" wireless dongle available, you'll probably pay at least as much to do it with a proper "bridge" adapter. A lot of routers can be set to client mode though then used as a bridge.

Don't go for the original Xbox dongle...it's a waste of money and very inflexible.

Best option is to go for a 2nd hand router that can be flashed with DDWRT or Tomato firmware and set it up as a client bridge. The advantages are that you can bridge an existing wired connected wirelessly to up to 4 devices...makes sense because it leaves room for expansion i.e. say you have a 360 and you're looking to add a PS3, Bluray player and internet enabled TV, you can have the bridge give ALL 4 a connection through the 4 ethernet ports whereas with the dongle you can't do that.

My problem at the moment is trying to find a wireless-n version of the wrt54g..

Speed & range is better on N
It is needed to stream HD content in the future
Lol, the G standard works just fine.

If you plan on streaming 1080p then yes, smooth playback is much more sensitive to range but 720p and below works perfectly. My bridge and primary router are very far apart with walls zigzagging and windows separating them and no problems.

Have you considered mikrotik/wrap boards with an N minipci card? Would cost a bit more but then it's very very flexible...

Yes I have but microtik is having trouble with router OS and the R52N cards...
