Wireless Network Advice (1 Router, 2 Access Points) ??

Hi,

Shortly I will need to setup a wireless network for a client. The scene is such that the DSL point & Hub (connecting the wired PCs) are in the middle of the property. The are two points on either side say 25m in either direction for arguments sake, North & South of the DSL point & hub.

I want to replace the current wireless setup, with something more feasible in terms of bandwidth price. I'm not worried about the bandwidth price & have that wrapped.

I was thinking of 1st purchasing a wireless DSL router, the ones where you can if need be replace the antennae with that kind of coaxial extension ?? Anyways I'm not too familiar with the actual setup but I have dealt with a device, namely this one http://www.linksysbycisco.com/MEA/en/products/WRT54GL that had a similar setup. The idea is to test the wireless DSL router, pending its lack of signal, attach two extensions to the router to enable the two sites to connect.

Could someone please confirm some new devices that will be able to handle this task ??

Thanks in Advance ;)

If you use the WRT54GL you can put the DDWRT firmware on it. This boots the wireless range, and works really nicely.
Check here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index

The Firmware is quite easy to load, as long as you follow instructions.
If you use the WRT54GL with the DDWRT firmware i doubt you would need any more Access points.

Sorry I didn't mention that these are separate buildings I'm talking about. Building one in the middle (a house) with the DSL point; Building 2 & 3 each located 25m away both in opposite directions.

But so that's +2 for the WRT54GL.

Thanks for the response.

Ok, so I now have the WRT54GL with DD-WRT firmware installed.

I have it installed in a room that is +/- 15m away from the two buildings that need to connect. The two buildings are in opposite directions from the central point i.e. North & South.

The signal is evident in the two building but in part of the buildings it drops to 20% signal strength.

I have read that I can increase the power & change to different antennae, I would like some connectivity in the building it is currently located in.

I'm essentially replacing an overpriced hot spot with free bandwidth for the visitors.

Any Ideas ??

If you can spend a little bucks, you must get yourself a DLINK DWL2100AP (Repeater) I have one @ home and it works wonders.
Extends my range through 4 concrete walls and about 200m
have a Linksys WRT54gl Running Tomato firmware, doing lazy WDS repeating to the DWL, and my SMC is set to bridge mode

There is an option under "Advanced Wireless" - i think - Where you can change the Transmit (TX) power to the antenna's which boots your range...

I see that but have no idea what range would be appropriate :(
