Wireless network and Samsung Galaxy S II

I don't know if this is the right forum, but I need help connecting to a wireless network. I have the SSID and the passkey. But I can't access the internet with my SGS2 through the wireless network. I can however connect to the internet with my laptop on the same wireless network. When I start up the laptop, I connect to the network wirelessly (this is automatic). When I open a browser, it prompts me for a username and password. As I am "networking knowledge base challenged" can you please help me in easy to understrand terms how to connect my phone to the same network. I can already establish a connection with the phone to the netwwork, but when I try to access something like google, the browser starts to open the page, but then just stops giving me a white screen. I assume I need to enter the username and password also, but I have no idea where to do that. Your help is appreciated!

PS: I am not trolling - I am posting this in tha Galaxy S 2 thread also.

You can try the follow (if you haven't already)
Menu
Settings
Wireless & Networks
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi settings

Let the SGS2 search for available wireless networks, then enter the correct data, and hit connect...
 
I have done that pezulu. I can connect to the network, but not to the internet. On the laptop, I have to input a username and a password which I assume I must do on the phone as well. But the phone does not give me the option. I will re-do the setup on the phone (for the brazillionth time) :p
 
Who administers the network ? They might have some MAC address exclusions which prevents WEB access - but allows connection to subnet ..

I am doing this "undercover" ... :erm: ... My phone is not excluded. I just need to be able to configure a username and password somewhere in the phone to gain access - and I am stuck there.

Someone suggested I should copy the proxy settings from the laptop connection, but it is set to "Automatically detect settings". And "Use proxy server for your LAN" is unticked, although the "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" is ticked but greyed out.
 
Seems you are going through a firewall that needs authentication, at our office our Android devices also does not give the popup to type in a username and password, ended up creating a DMZ wireless network, and setup a new VDOM on our firewall to allow the devices access without authentication...
 
Yeah ShawnStar - I am a guest on the network and I don't think they will be doing all the above for jusl lil ol' me ... Not for the phone though.

Yeah it was quite the setup just to get them going, they could also just add the IP of the device to the current firewall to allow it through without authentication, maybe they will do that for you?

Oh no they won't!! Lets just say it is complicated. I was like pulling hen's teeth to get them to put my laptop on the network. There is no way they will put my phone on as well ... something to do with "how does that aid you to do your work" :whistle:
 
See if you can find a 3rd party browser or software that can handle proxy and/or NTLM authentication for Android, if there is none then you might be stuck, sorry :(
 
I downloaded fennec ... will see how it goes tomorrow. Thanks for all the help so far.
 
Okay ... I have good news (at least for me).
I downloaded fennec (Nightly browser) and installed it.
Then went onto the network and opened the browser.
The browser asked for the username and password. I entered it and could access the web.
I kept Nightly open and went into the marketplace, the standard internet browser of the SGS2 and facebook ... and JOY!!!
I don't know yet if it Nightly should stay open, but I will do some further testing.
To all who replied, THANKS ALOT! and special thanks to ShawnStar who helped with the final nail into the coffin!
 
Glad to hear it's working.
You can always close Nightly and see if you can still access everything, some firewalls will save your authenticated session to your phone IP, so all traffic coming from it should be allowed, although there might be a "authentication expire" set on the firewall, but then just re-open the browser to re-authenticate for the next how ever long the "authentication expire" is set to, ours is set to 2 hours as far as I can remember...
