Wireless Network Hardware Help

Heya guys and girls, was hoping you could help me find the right hardware for my specific need.

First let me lay out the current network system in my house so you can get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

At the top of my house is where my Netgear DG834GT sits comfortably connected to the net (for logistical reasons it needed to be up there by the phone line and my mothers PC), out of it I've laid a cable through the roof, all the way down to my bedroom. That LAN cable plugs in to my Netgear 4 port 1gb Switch in my room. So the LAN cable from port one on the DG834GT router thus feeds into port one on my switch... and my PC plugs into 2, and my Xbox 360 into 3. Everything is running perfect and that's my current wired network.

However port 4 on my switch is sitting all lonely, so I've decided to extend our wireless connection to the bottom half of the house (since the Wi-Fi connection from the DG834GT barely reaches beyond the lounge). Thus making this dead zone Wi-Fi active. Instead of buying a repeater/booster type thing, I'd much rather plug a device into port 4 on my switch and set it up to transmit the strongest possible signal from my already established LAN network.

So, what hardware could do this?

Thanks so much :)

You need an AP (Accesspoint). They are quite cheap relative to routers. Keep the SSID and the security the same on the AP as on your router and viola, you have a big footprint! Just make sure that you use a different channel (preferably 1/6/11)

Yip can't go wrong with Linksys, but have a look around at the different models

Thanks, Praesis, can that Linksys drop down to 802.11 b/g? Cause the device I'm using with my Wi-Fi apparently doesn't work with N

Yeah, it's very customizable since it's Cisco goods in the linksys. It can do b g and N and it's rather cheap :)
