Howdy all

I am trying to setup a wireless connection to my Telkom ADSL 5102G WiFi Router. The PC running Vista can see the wireless network but when I try and connect to it, gives me an error ' Windows cannot connect to XXX '. No matter what I try it does not wanna connect. I am currently using WPA-PSK with TKIP Encryption. Even when I disable 'Authentication Type' still no luck...
I never had problems connecting to the wireless with my Powerbook... Now I am stuck with a PC... POS!!
Please any info or help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Ok, I have tried on Windows XP on the same machine.. Get the same problem. Windows detects the network and 'tries to aquire network address' but then 'Not Connected'!! GRRR!!

is your router set to DHCP? if not, what is the ip range of your router? and set your network cards ip range accordingly.

if you have tried vista and xp, the problem wont be the pc, but rather settings on the router or the network card you have not done correctly.

Are you sure the signal is strong enough? Last time I had a problem like that in vista, I got a new aerial for my wireless card and it was all sorted

As far as I can see the router is set to DHCP (Not 100% sure where to check). It could be a setting but just dont know what else to check!
The signal is full, the pc is about 2m away from the router at the moment in the same room.
Another thing I noticed is that there is a green LED on the card but does not come on at all..

Have you set the wireless device up with the encryption key? The device must be fully operational.

In your router go to: interface setup / wireless: It must be activated and the broadcast the SSID

On the status tab you will see if DHCP is enabled.

I suspect the wireless pc with the wireless card is the problem.

The 5102 is with default ready for the connection IIRC. Except maybe just clicking the activating button for wireless

Yes
Yes
DHCP - Enabled

Just strange that it detects the network but cant connect to it...

I tried that last night, also reset it back to 'default settings'. I dont think there is a problem with network card as it does detect the wireless network, must a setting that I am missing or something...

Hi I'm having the same problem. I bought a new laptop running on Vista and tried to add it to my wireless network which has worked fine with three Windows XP pc's linked. Now it connects but with limited connectivity and I cannot get on to the internet. I called through to Helkoms support they changed the WPA key tried a few other things that didn't work then told me the router needed a firmware upgrade to work with Vista. I called Marconi and was told there is no firmware update for Vista. Then went in search on the web and found an upgrade, loaded it but it has made no difference. Another problem, since Helkom's support team changed all the settings, now none of my other PC's will connect only the one acting as a server connected to the router. Help............

Trying setting your pc's IP manually. For ex. if your router ip is 192.168.0.1
Change your pc ip to 192.168.0.2, subnet mask: 255.255.255.0, Gateway: 192.168.0.1 DNS: 192.168.0.1
Try it with security disabled first

Tried this and it doesn't work. It looks like it is a common problem with Vista. How did they break it? Gees. Windows XP joins the network without a hitch...
