Not to Diss WirelessOnline...

But that is quite expensive...

1stly when they say 3gig cap at R599.. They will cap u once you reach that 3gig. They won't allow 4-5gigs.

--------------------------------
Normal phone line rental = R100, 384K ADSL line is R245, 3gig Telkom account is R250 Total = R595 (R5 cheaper)
--------------------------------

Telkom says it has a 3gig cap, but they are quite leniant.. most users can surf/game/download till around 3-7gigs still.

Also specially if your a gamer, u would rather go for adsl vs wireless ISP's

I know some wireless company's actually do alot of great work, and they try organizing lekker packages for the clients. But one tends to get a higher ping on Wireless, ping spikes, packet loss, and alot of downtime due to Server problems, Tower problems, broken links between the towers,Maintainance times, Upgrades etc...

I aint a telkom fan, but adsl is stable. downtimes are minimal. and the pings are playable even if u have a shaped account.

Thanks for the reply.
Not interested in gaming.
384Kbps is slower than 512Kbps. Note the contention ratio is 1:1.
1GB would still be by far more than enough for me.
What is the upload speed for 384Kbps ADSL?

I used WO for about 2 years. The speeds you get from them are very good. Just now and then your connection drops.

I used the 512k package with 1GB for R299 and bought about 2GB extra every month adding up to R599 per month. If 1GB is enough for you, sure, go for it. You will be satisfied. Note that I don't believe that 1:1 contention ratio. If you have a 512k connection with 1:1 contention you are suppose to get 512k. I usually got about 400k.

But I must also say. I'm using Telkom ADSL with a Telkom 3GB account now and I don't see a big difference in speed between my Telkom 384k and the 512k I had from WO. And like you I don't use it for online gaming. The best thing about Telkom is that they dont cap you on 3GB. You can go over that and get about 7-8GB or even more. I heard of people that get 40GB+ on their 3GB TelkomADSL accounts. I haven't tried that yet.

So if youre looking at a very reliable connection without any problems go for TelkomADSL. If you don't want to use Telkom then go for Wireless Online. Or why not try one of you local WISPs in Somerset West?

I thought Wireless Online was local enough. Any suggestions on which ones you have in mind?

I liked Wireless Online, because the service is unshaped. It looks like good solid internet. You can use your data as you wish. As it should be.

I have been using Wireless Online for about 2 years now. I started on their slower packages but i am now on the Work Velocity 3Gb 1Mbps package.
I get my full 1Mb and rarely have issues. I know about the problems you face with it being a wireless connection. But a friend of mine 2 houses away is bound to a 6 month contract from another WISP and not only is his bandwidth really dodgy but he has more downtime then guys on ADSL :D and there is no service system available to him. As for the cap 3Gb's is 3Gb's and thats what i pay for. In other words i have no grievances with them and i would recommend trying them out.

I was wondering about that. Will I actually really get 512Kbps upload and download, or is that just a burst speed?

I see it says optional Public IP. Does that mean you get a private IP and when you pay extra you get a public one?

I read something about a internal ftp that they have for sharing files on the network. But i think its like R100 extra a month.

It is full speed 1:1 i get between 120 - 128kbps on both downloading and uploading. I do quite abit of uploading onto hosted servers and web development and need a decent upload speed. The only package they offer with a burst speed is the Work Velocity 10 it is a 1Mb connection with a 2Mb burst. But as i said dont take my word for it try it out yourself :D

R100 per month?? As far as I know it was free to all the members of the community. Not all WO users were able to use it. Only if you are playing online games with the other members. If you don't, then you just have your normal internet connection. NO extras.

Then I am convinced. This must be the best broadband deal available in SA. I will have it installed ASAP. Will provide feedback here or perhaps in the new review sections.

Piesang, what kind of stuff did they have on the ftp server? or rather , how much space is there?
