Ok her is the full story
I have an adsl line installed with a wireless router to it
I dont have a isp yet, hence no username and password
I have a wireless card so i scan
It says enter the network code meaning the wpa key
So i enter the key then get the setup for my username and password, then im off..right..right
Now my brother comes along and he to want to use his laptop to access the wireless modem to surf the net, right
Ok he does his setup on his lap top and i give him the wpa key
He has his own username and password from his dsl isp.
He connects through my adsl line, and surfs happy the net
Ok my other friend comes too and he to has what my brother has
And he to connects to my access point
Where in the statment above is it true or false

he will only be able to use his own username and password if the router has PPPOE Relay available and enabled. Most ADSL modems are either bridges or routers, but some let you use them as both at the same time.

Edit: Okay, maybe I misunderstood.

Can you clarify the highlighted bit? Does he enter the user and pass on your modem and everyone on the network then has access? or only him from his machine?

its a bit dodgy when using the router in both modes, rather set it to bridge, that way the router acts like a modem and you guys still are networked together. The best bet is to put the dhcp server on the router and auto assign all ips

Well from what I understand:

Depending on the router you can have multiple DSL accounts setup but can will have to set up a routing table for witch point uses which account. Anyone can use a username and password on any router, however some routers only use one account, in which case the active account is the one that will be used for net access.

I know my SMC router allows multiple accounts with seperate mapping for each lan point. Never use it thought. I run about 3-10 machines through mine.

He has his own account and uses my router to access.not my account

Another thing is that telkom suplied us with this router, for free, and its not even a contract,I guess applying through a company name is tops withthem

Then my original post applies. For him to use his own account via your router, while you're still using your own on the router, the router would need PPPoE Relay. It's called different things on different routers, but not very many support it. What modem do you have?
