I currently have the D Link Dsl 2500U modem, so I don't need a modem.
I've a read few threads on wireless routers but I still can't make up my mind.

What I'd like is :
Wireless N, Gigabit ethernet and usb/Nas functionality, something that's not going to break after a month.
Price should be around R1.2K

ThanX

I've just ordered the Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH (4x 1Gbps LAN + 1x Gbps WAN + USB2 for 3G/Storage + Wireless N with DD-WRT firmware) from Expansys, but they have to import it from the UK, so it can take like a month to arrive :(
Apparently you can order it for roughly the same ~R1200 from Miro and they have it in stock.

If you don't need such a high-end router, then you can go for the TP-Link WR1043ND, which Uniterm Direct sells (www.dbg.co.za) for like R545 (ex VAT). Please note that this router also has the same features as the one above.

I would appreciate if anyone could point me to a 1Gbps Wireless N router in SA. I've seen none.

Thanks Pada.
The Buffalo specs look good. Does anyone have this router?

I saw something come through Frontosa new products yesterday from D-Link - was about R2.5k ex VAT -- I think it was the DGL-4500 (or could have been the Xtreme N), but will check when I get home...

Perhaps an updated pricelist? Here's what I see on mine:

There are quite a lot of Gigabit + Wireless N routers (from like D-Link, Cisco/Linksys & Netgear) out there, but those 2 that I've listed are the only ones that I know of that support DD-WRT/OpenWRT firmware.

I actually wanted a MikroTik router with that kind of functionality, but it is going to be VERY expensive, seeing that the entry level MikroTik routers (eg. RB750G) can't really switch & route at gigabit speeds. They can switch at that kind of speeds, but then you can't route stuff too.

None from D-Link at Frontosa, one of their main suppliers/distributors if I'm not mistaken. :(

Links to local suppliers/distributors with a product that includes those specifications would be incredibly useful :)

Thanks Awesum. But last time I imported something like that from Take2, it took about 2 months instead of 25 days!

Do you think Expansys would be more reliable?

Also can't see it on their pricelist, but it's listed on their e-mail shot as the DSR1000N @ R2468 + VAT
I'm also not finding it on the local D-link website, but the Australian site has the product specs here

I just ordered the Buffalo from Expansys. They say it will be in SA in 7 to 10 days.

Thanks for all your assistance.

Netgear offer by far the most reliable router I have come across..
That is quite a wild statement to make to say the least. So far the Netgear routers/modems/AP's are some of the worst that I've came across.
The Netgear stuff are overpriced, they lack critical features (such as bridge mode) and their wireless range and SNR margins are terrible.
I've never used enterprise quality equipment from Netgear, so perhaps you were referring to them?

The "cheap" 802.11n + 1Gbps AP's are more scarce than I thought - seeing that most of the 802.11n AP's have only 100Mbps LAN ports. There are a couple of them (802.11n + 1Gbps) at the following sites:
http://www.prophecy.co.za/bwirelessb-wifi-access-points-c-169_171_349.html?page=2&sort=3a eg. D-Link DAP-1522 Xtreme N Duo / D-Link DAP-1353 / Netgear RangeMax Wireless-N AP / Netgear Rangemax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router
http://www.scoopdistribution.co.za eg. PLANET WNAP-3000PE / MikroTik RouterBoard 493G * + R52Hn MMCX MiniPCI Card + Antenna + Case (* this option ain't cheap!)
http://www.dbg.co.za/index.php?cPath=1 eg. TP-LINK WR1043ND
