Wireless setup problems

Good day,

I hope someone can help me.

I have a single lan port Billion dsl router, and a gigabyte wireless router.
The billion router ip address is fixed at 10.0.0.2, subnet 255.255.255.0 when I just plugin my computer lan card into the billion router my connection is fine.

When I initially added the wireless router, I configured the the wireless routers wan ip address to 10.0.0.5, subnet 255.255.255.0 and I enabled DHCP on the wireless router and the routers ip address to the rest of the pc connecting to it was 192.168.1.254, subnet 255.255.255.0.

All my pc's where connecting successfully and i could use the internet no problem. But then this morning the wireless router couldn't ping the billion dsl router.

Does anyone have any idea why this would happen if i hadn't changed anything?

Please any help would be appreciated.
 
Switch everything off and wait 2 mins then switch back on, if you didnt make any changes then something has lost its connection somewhere, best is to try and power cycle the routers first and see if that sorts it out
 
That is a bit of a strage setup you are running there.

The easiest solution would be to leave the DHCP server on the router enabled, and define its range as something like 10.0.0.6-10.0.0.xxx. Then you will at least be in the same IP range. Also disable the DHCP server on the Gigabyte router, since you cant have 2 DHCP servers running on the same network. After that things should start working hopefully

uuum technically it shouldnt. I am running a similar setup, except I use the Gigabyte router as DHCP server, and then I have another DLINK AP just for range extenstion. The port forwarding works fine if i connect to either the Gigabyte or the DLink, so AFAIK it shouldnt affect your port forwading settings. Also for port forwarding you might want to set up that certain PC's get static IP's on your Gigabyte, and then change the DHCP address range to not include those spcific addresses...
 
So if i understand correctly, my billion router will have dhcp enabled, the gigabyte router will not have dhcp enabled. Will the gigabyte router then have a dynamic ip?
 
No I wouldnt recommend setting up the Gigabyte with a dynamic IP. Just set its IP up as detailed below.

ok basicly do something like this:
Billion Router: 10.0.0.1, enable DHCP
Gigabyte Router: 10.0.0.2, disable DHCP
DHCP on Billion: 10.0.0.10-10.0.0.30

The reason I left a few IP's open is so that some of our machines that you want to have static IP's have space, since u said u wanted to enable port forwarding. So now you can set the machines that you want port forwarding for to something like 10.0.0.3-10.0.0.9

Obviously make sure that they all on 255.255.255.0 subnet...
