Wireless signal perfect. Internet connection not..

Ok so I recently went wireless for both of my computers. I noticed that the signal on both were "Excellent" but my bandwidth is horrible, especially when I play world of warcraft. My latency is always like 2-3k and just browsing the internet isn't all that great. I have the wireless - n (adapter / router) which i heard was supposed to be good. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

I dont think its much of an interference issue because i dont have many electronics in the house and the routers / adapters are sitting high up from the floor.. Both computers are about 10feet from the router. Again, the signal is perfect, just the bandwidth thats lacking. Any help would be appreciated

By "wireless - n" do you mean IEEE 802.11n draft?

I'm still betting its interference. Specifically interference from 802.11b/802.11g devices in your neighborhood. Possibly also cordless phones.

Change the routers channel. Download netstumbler and check whether you are getting interference from someone elses router.

The other possibility is that you are getting problems due to different hardware makes. Remember, n is still in draft...so not everything is 100% compatible.
 
Yea 802.11n

I had someone tell me to lower my MTU size from 1500 to 1300. Still trying to figure out where that is on my belkin router. Think that could fix it?
 
MTU won't fix this.

Change the channel on the router.

Keep in mind that, the signal will still show as OK even if its shot too pieces by interference....it just shows the "strength" not the "quality" of the signal.
 
Think buying a router with 5ghz freq. would help? I wish I can just do a wired connection but id rather not get charged double from my isp for another modem..
 
I've already told you 2x what I think would help: Changing the wireless channel & checking for interfering networks with netstumbler.
 
Ive tried doing what you told me. There is another network in the area but its the same for my wireless network nextdoor. They arent affecting us. I even put the router in the same room as the main pc and im getting the same issues. I would be suprised if it was an interference issue.. Its got to be something else
 
Ok heres an update.

I tried our house next door which also has a wireless setup and used the belkin router I bought. Went to speed test it and got 6.7k downloadspeed while at the original house I was only getting 800-2k download (both wirelessly and wired to the modem). Just moved back in here and was thinking if the wiring for the cable is bad? There was a guy who we rented this house to and he wired all the rooms to have cable. Im going to call the ISP tommorow and have them check it out. I really hope all it is is just a wiring problem thats bogging down the speed for this house. Cant think of any other reason as to why 2 neighboring houses have such different results.
