Hey All

I have a Netgear WPN111 usb dongle and the thing keeps disconnecting every 20min or so.

Now I've done:

1.) Tried installing the latest drivers.
2.) Placing it on a fan to keep it cool (thought the problem may be overheating)
3.) Signal is not a problem
4.) Router is not a problem, all the other pc's stay connected

Any other suggestions?

sounds to me like a usb setup that doesn't provide consistant power or its a compatiblity error.

like i have..asus a7v8x with a zyxl g270-s - EXACT same problem as yourself!
solution - pci usb host card!

- test this dongle in another pc/notebook.

What is the WPN111 linking to (AP)? communication requires 2 or more partners.

Pros: After you install the Atheros AR5005UG driver rather than using Netgear's unstable driver, this product works really well.

Cons: I had to use the Atheros AR5005UG chipset driver, version 09/26/2005,1.5.0.2102, to get the WPN111 to work correctly! I slightly modified the Atheros .ini file to fit the WPN111. Netgear's original driver freezes-up the PC after a few minutes of inactivity using the Windows XP operating system. With the Atheros AR5005UG driver, your system will not crash under Windows XP, but it only connects at 54 MBPS. I'd rather have a stable connection and sacrifice speed for now until Netgear comes out with a Windows XP certified driver for the WPN111 which doesn't hang/freeze-up/crash your PC.

Other Thoughts: Recommended for advanced PC users who can install the Atheros AR5005UG chipset driver instead.

Seems like there is a bit of a problem with the WPN111. Most users (from various sites) say it's not very good.

Maybe leave it in a freezer to keep it cool :p

Connecting to an AP (netgear DG834GT), I had no problem today with it. Very weird! I'll try that atheros driver. Thx for the info repitah :)
