They are finally out - all cut out last Tuesday-

Almost no swelling
Very little pain

I was a bit worried about dry socket but holes are stitched and have some sort of implant that is supposed to assist in bone growth.

There is slight seepage but guessing this is just a part of the healing process as there is no swelling/fever or pain - Can't tell from colour whether its an infection (colourblind)

Got a funky piece of headgear that fits around your head (looks almost like a boxers headgear) and has ice packs in it - will use when summer gets too hot ^_^.

Only crap thing was anaesthesia, I think something went a little wrong as I stopped breathing before I was fully under - scared the crap out of me - lungs just stopped working - Apparently I wildly wiggled my finger (Most of me was already paralysed).

MsDenz - the thought of you shedding tears over my corpse pulled me through the worst of it, I would survive any number of minor surgical procedures to prevent your sadness.

I found that headgear pretty annoying. For ice I slowly sipped ice water or even just put it in my mouth and then spit it out. Way more effective at it gets the cold to the swollen areas directly.

have you ever researched why we have those "extra" teeth?

Haha, I liked mine! Was quite fun for a while!

:wtf: scary stuff!!

what exactly happened?

You got me wondering ..

A Wise Tooth... Thousands of Years Ago

Our earliest ancestors survived on a diet of raw meat, nuts, roots, berries and leaves. Cro-Magnon man didn't have the luxury of using knives to cut and prepare his food, and cooking his meat wasn't even thought of then. Chewing these tough, coarse, and rugged foods required a broader jaw, and strong molars -- including the wisdom teeth. Having all three molars was vital, in order for our ancestors to be able to eat the foods necessary for survival. The larger jaw, common in our ancestors, easily accommodated the wisdom teeth, which allowed them to erupt into the mouth normally.
Fast-forward to today, and take a look at what we are eating and more importantly how we are preparing our food. We cut, dice, chop, and boil, steam, and bake almost everything we eat. All of that food preparation has made eating a pretty easy feat to accomplish, in fact experts believe that our jaw line has become less broad and smaller over the years due to how food is prepared and consumed; hence the reason why our wisdom teeth need to be extracted.

mine are coming out next week.
Shouldn't be too bad (I`ve had 11 teeth extracted under local anesthetic) and they`re poking out from my gums..
I hope...

atomcrushers story matches that of my surgeon - to try relax me he started going into scientific facts regarding teeth - he was pretty awesome

Well if I got the gist of what the doc said when I mentioned it - The muscle relaxant was given too early - this proceeded to kill my lung function while I was still conscious- and yeah - its like one of those bad dreams when you try scream and nothing comes out - I couldn't breathe and I couldn't tell them (Except my wiggly finger)

While I was still awake they got me breathing - not sure how - I was already at the spinny room phase - and then I woke up in recovery.

Glad you're ok. Unless you have severe pain at the extraction sites you dont have to be concerned about infection. As for the wiggling finger during anaesthesia... it was probably the electrical stimulus that is used to test muscle relaxation before commencement of the operation.

Thanks Airedale
No I purposefully wiggled my finger - I was trying to thrash wildly as I couldn't breathe -

To make up for the nasty, scary experience....:p:D
...and for the poem you wrote for me :D

I feel joy to know that you would stand over me,
As my life departs and spirit flies free,
I promise I'll behave, every minute and hour,
But Abzo I'll watch over, whilst in the shower

So there I was, thinking of you
Wondering if you were freaking out too
Just the thought of the dentist made me moan
I pictured him drilling through teeth and bone

That awful image caused me to shake
I wondered how much more you could take
The dentist grunted and pulled out a tooth
I heard him say to his assistant, Ruth

"Do you wonder about this fellow here?
Do you think he has secrets he holds dear?
What do you say, while he's out
We check to see what he's thinking about?"

So together the two put probes in your head
While there you slept as though you were dead
The dentist grinned as he followed a scene
Of Abzo, a shower, and you getting clean.

The stalwart Ruth remained unmoved
All while the doctor your wisdom, removed
And then you woke, sobbing out loud
To find you'd gathered quite a crowd

They laughed and jeered and mocked you so
Their favourite scene was a wet Abzo
They stole your secrets in under an hour
They took away Abzo along with his shower.

bwahahahah! nice one!

I feel for free verse today:

Sutures thread across bloody chasms,
My mouth a marionette, an evil geniuses theatre,
Forced into submission, my body limp- my orifice agape,

Please be gentle....... :erm:

I like my verse with a touch of humour, but I'll try...

As you awaken from a deep slumber
Leaving behind a yawning chasm of darkness
A gentle hand soothes your brow while sorrow within your heart unfurls
Tears stream silently as you bemoan the loss of your wisdom of pearls
