I was wondering what the accepted protocol is regarding the login details of your rocket or wireless receiver. I want to log in to my wireless receiver to check the signal strength, because my WISP just blames high packet loss on bad signal quality, even though I ping the wireless receiver wit 0% packet loss, but experience high packet loss when pinging their tower.
At times the internet works perfectly for a week or 2 and then the high packet loss and variable ping starts again.

In my opinion, if the wireless receiver is your property, you should be allowed to have the login details, much like having the login details of your router when your running on ADSL or do I have it wrong?

I'm just curious to find the problem, could even be that the problem is on my side.

A lot of wisps (by default) do not give their clients full access to the client side devices.

Main reason being ...

because my WISP just blames high packet loss on bad signal quality, even though I ping the wireless receiver wit 0% packet loss, but experience high packet loss when pinging their tower.

The problems you describe matches exactly the explanation given to you by your WISP...

That being said, your WISP can't just blame it on bad signal and leave it there.

Which WISP is this, if I may ask?

I would rather prefer not to bad mouth my ISP, without having solid proof. I logged a fault earlier, but according to them, they tested my connection and there was 0% packet loss, even though I'm still running on 30% packet loss.

Make sure that you are cabled into their device. Do a MTR (Google WinMTR) to www.google.co.za. That will show you where the packet loss is starting. If it's on hop one, then it's something internal. Any other hop, and the WISP will have to investigate

Well, the thing is, sometimes I have 0% packet loss to Cape Town websites, but then after a week or 2 of good internet, the packet loss starts again and I have to start complaining again.

Then why did they do the install?

You should question their QoS standards...

Agreed! Then they shouldn't subscribe you. There might also be occasional interference if it works fine for a while. What equipment did they put up for you?

I'm not in the Stellenbosch area anymore. Tested the signal strength this afternoon and the problem isn't there, so I'm almost sure the problem isn't on my side. Will get in contact with my ISP on Monday and see if I can get things sorted out.

The Ubiquiti radios all have a read only account that can be activated. Maybe ask them to activate it for you.

Support techs normally prefer emails saying; "My signal is -86 and CCQ is 47%" to; "I'm experiencing packet loss".
