So i live in Vaalpark Sasolburg, and we have been looking for a WISP since March 2016 and the only ones i found had terrible reviews and from what i heard they where no good at all.

I decided not to shell out the R3500 for the dish and installation, we used afrihost mobile data on our phones, it was expensive! Then about two weeks ago I noticed that the guy across from us had one of the satellite dishes on his building, I had no shame knocking on his door to find out, from who it was.

www.glidepath.co.za They have been in the business since 2014 and only did business connections for that time and only recently started doing home connections, so i decided to get them to install the dish and provide me with a connection, uncapped and unshaped 5mbps, as it was roughly the same price as 20gb from a mobile (3g) isp, and i can say this is by far the best connection i have ever had from any isp, I had a 10mbps fiber line from a well known isp, when we where living in Vanderbijlpark, and they don't come close to Glide Path.

I just wanted to share my experience so far with them as I know they are not well known and i can't seem to find them on google when you search for a WISP or ISP, they charge you a installation fee (a lot less than you think) that includes the hardware you need, modem, router, cables and the dish and for the price you pay per month you will not find a better or cheaper option in Sasolburg area, they only cover the Sasol/Vaalpark area as far as i know, but give them a call and see if the can't service your area in the vaal.

I know this sounds like a add for them but I don't have anything to do with them except that i'm a customer and a happy one at that, if you are using any wired adsl or or fiber give them a call and see for your self.

Did the speed test as i'm posting this, my wife is streaming on netfilx atm. decide for your self this is the speed i have been getting since i had it installed, phoned them because i don't want to pay for a 20mbps line at the end of the month, the reply i got was that there network allows speeds above 5mbps(on my 5mbps connection) and it depends on the traffic on there network, and they guarantee the 5mbps speed, it will not drop below this ever and if for some reason it does i give them a call and it will be fixed asap. You get what you pay for guaranteed!

Haha does. But believe me they are that good. But i give praise where it's due.

My first thought as well. Hope for the guys in that general area it is legit ito value.

99% of Vaalpark has VDSL and half of Sasolburg, I don't mean to be condescending towards the guy, I really want to know what the benefits are, you get a higher upload and that's about it.

I live in a complex and I can't get a fixed line to my house and I think it mite be the same for other people living in this area, so my only option is to get a wireless connection. So that is the benefit for me! and I sure will be the same for other people in my situation.

 i don't care it it's an ad or not as long as it helping the small business and the economy to be diverse and competitive, I am koel with dit.;)

"not torrent friendly"

That will be a big issue for a lot of people, and they don't seem to have offices, on their site it says DP de Villiers Stadium, they can't possibly have a office inside of the sports stadium?

glidepath Who is their Backbone network provider? are they 1st Tier Carrier? who provides them with access to the internet?

I do torrent on the network, but like under the radar if and when i do torrent, i do set the upload to 1kbps and only download the files at 100kbps and i get the stuff i want from torrent sites, i do think if i'm going to torrent at full speed they will have a problem with that, but i do stream a lot of the things we at home watch, i you are torrent crazed i do think you will like it, we canceled our dstv now we have a account with netflix and some other one my wife got. I download all my steam games and battelnet games, with no problem, and there is so far not shaping or throttling happening plus there are some sites that you can download games and movies that dont use torrents. Let say for me i dont really care for torrents.

I know they have a fiber cable running from here to some place is JHB but don't know who it is if you mail the and ask maybe they will tell you, and it is 1000mbps line that is setup on the lights of the stadium, and there is quite a lot of there poles with the sasol security cameras on them. No office that i know of.

Hi Dread.

Can you kindly provide an updated short review on glidepath?
Are you still happy with the service, if you still have it?

<The below is my experience>

I have them as my backup platform to ADSL. I am going to be honest : a "B minus score" overall. Support is slow , performance is really poor @peak times and if you have an advanced network query which is aimed at constructive criticism , you get delayed support or negative feedback. For the current monthly fee they are asking , they should be delivering same stable window of service such as at least a full unshaped/uncapped 4mbps ADSL . My wannabe 2.5 (4mbps) TelkomSA capped ADSL performs more consistent than their uncapped service. The service was great to start with because there wasn't as many subscribers on the onset. So much for advertised: "no contention ratio / better and cheaper than ADSL/LTE" performance - nope , not anymore dear sirs! RAIN and Telkom LTE uncapped are nullifying that statement! Your product is now overpriced and no longer giving the desired results i am paying for. I suppose that it is typical illness of a typical WISP platform and management . If you have no alternative options due to poor LTE/RAIN/ADSL , like i do , it is an OK service - but it is NOT currently , locally , a prime platform for performance and reliability given what you pay for vs advertised and how the service has degraded over time. That B- can be improved to something much better , but the ball is in their hands. I am still hanging on for some reason?....

<any Glid3p@th rep/admin , please stay out of this , this is my comment as paying user - take the comments and improve , rather than attack or throwing mud. You know what the issues are - fix it :) >

Cheers
