IMO .... I have to agree

ID software by miiiiiiiiiiiiiiilllllllllllesssssssss!!!

quake

wolfenstein

Doom 3

do i need say more?

forgot to add EPIC aswell with there UE but they come 2nd

i agree about ubisoft, they are my fav developers.
Some seriously polished stuff comes out of there :)

*cough* Valve *cough*

Konami with the mgs series on the ps2 has been amazing and mgs4 on the ps3 looks like it will blow everything else out of the water

Hmm, I will hold my opinion until Crysis is released, them I will say Crytek.

1. Crytek
2. Epic
3. Valve
4. Guys who Made Chronicles Of Rid**** (Forgot name)
4. iD

Ubisoft don't generate engines as such. Splinter Cell is built on UE2, which is modified to allow use of fragment shaders. What Ubisoft have done for Splinter Cell Chaos Theory is amazing considering their using such an old engine. However we can't put them on the list because they using some one else' engine.

Same with ET:Quake Wars, that looks far far better than Doom3 could ever hope too. You'll see when it's out. :)

Crytek seem to be on a winning streak when it comes to the eye-candy. But I have to say that Bullfrog really made leaps & bounds in terms of graphic engines back in the day. Remember Magic Carpet? High Octan? Dungeon Keeper? True 3D back when other's were using perspective tricks. There was another game, Robocop 3D or something to that affect...

EDIT: http://www.robocoparchive.com/games/pc2.htm

It simply boils down to who has enough money to license the best engine around.

Currently IMO :

1. ID ( indoor candy & doesnt require a king of a PC )
2. Monolith ( FEAR engine )
3. Crytek ( outdoor eye candy )
4. Epic's UE3 ( can only improve with more games )

I would not put ID at number 1 at least not after Doom3.
JC talks the talk and we wait an eternity for his engines, but when they come out their okay. Crytek came out of nowhere and blasted away everything that was around at the time and for some tie to come. Valve also talk the talk, and take forever. Chronicles Of Rid**** looked at worst the same as Doom3, but actually better, but nobody made a noise about the engine.

EPIC also proved that by no means does ID make the best engines, not by a mile. Original Unreal was better engine than both Quake1 and Quake2 engine. UE2 still powers SC today, and well UE3 is what all XBOX punters are going on about today...

By all means ID is good, but they are not the best

ID's biggest advantage is its flexibility which stands right next to UE variations.

But overall an engine looks best if the game developers really tweak it for the best.

many moons ago a company named ID made a game called doom which quite simply put FPS and 3d enviroments on the map, then they brought the full 3d engine for Quake 1 whilst most computer geeks were playing wolfenstein and duke nukem with carboard cut outs.

ID software alone are the godfathers of graphics engines and always will be.Cormack is king and will stay that way, alot of games company's just simply have a picture of him framed on there famous wall

before epic there was ID ,before the UE engine there was ID and so on

ive played COR and Doom3 and unless my monitor was playing some funky tricks on me i rather prefered doom.

im sure me and you would get on wonderfully at a lan match! do you play quake?

by all means EPIC are good, but they are not the best;)

for me the best graphic was counter strike, raganarok, rf online. what do you bout world of warcraft? do you think it's graphics nice?

Dude, lay of the crack and Borat.

Hmm, are you allowed to include graphics for a game/engine that hasn't been released yet? Technically by including Crysis you're comparing CG movies to released games.

I've heard of witch dockters, but witch developers? And insinuating that Ubisoft is using witchcraft is a bit far fetched, don't you think?

Sorry couldn't help myself :D

Cos EA imho are not game devs, they a bunch a greedy SOB's who bought out most company's.And keep there logo pasted on the load screen.

basically they steal company's and use them and there ideas.

Epic with their Unreal engine 3.0 ... def for now ... that is until Crytek shows off Crysis ...

And btw SC: Double Agent ... what a game ... really enjoyed... weel spent R300 even if it was short ...

id started it. Epic took it further. Simple really.
Epic>ID.
As for the rest. um not sure hey, blizzard(mainly Diablo 2).
As for Ea, only the NFS series looks the buisness.
