Johannesburg – Student activists of the University of the Witwatersrand say they will delegate some of their leaders to the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) to provide support.

“A number of our comrades have been detained for a number of days. We need to stand together and provide assistance where we can,” student leader Busisiwe Seabe said.

Seabe said she would be in Pretoria, while Mcebo Dlamini and former Wits student leader, advocate Dali Mpofu, will leave for UKZN.

Eleven students were arrested at UKZN two weeks ago, following violent clashes with police and students.

“We are just reacting to a call of emergency that our people are held there. Nothing has been done, so we need to go help,” Dlamini said.

Dlamini said they would be accompanied by other senior council members.

Seabe said another leader Vuyani Pampo will leave for the Vaal or the Free State.
