Hi everyone,

I've been accepted to study a post graduate course at Wits this year, but I havent registered yet. They didnt bother to tell me that I had to come in to register and could not do so online. Anyway, I need to go in tomorrow to register, but I'm not sure where to park.

I know that I need to register at the Exam Hall in Central Block, which I can see is in the East Campus, but I dont know where to park. I dont have a student card yet so I cant use any student parking.

Does anyone have some advice for me on how to do this and what I might need? I've printed out a fee statement to prove that I have paid more than the minimum amount. What else do I need? Proof of address? Also what time would be the best time to go, to get it over and done with quickly? I planned to wake up early and go early - is it worth it? Would going at lunch time be suicide?

Use the Enoch Sontonga entrance, park in the first parking on the left (as you enter). :)

The booms will only close in March I think. So you have till then to register (for parking I mean).

Steps to follow:

1. Grab your fee statement and take it to the fees office. They will clear your account (this means you ready to register). Make sure that minimum amount is cleared.

2. Go to exams hall. Register. I'm sure the parking office will be there as well. If so, you're done. If not, see steps 3 and 4.

3. Go to the parking office in the basement in Senate House (ask around, people won't bite) and fill in the parking form. 5 minutes done.

4. Then go to ICAM office in senate house to update your student card for parking.

Go at any time really. Everyone is pretty much registered by now. So there won't be terrible queue's.

Just make sure you have your ID and fees statement (if possible) on hand.

Hope this helps.

You'll need to park at Lower Mordor and walk all the way to Central Block. Exams hall is on the third floor of Central Block. Massive room. Can't miss it.

Lower Mordor (it is called this since it is *&^%^ far away from everything) always has space and doesn't require a student card to get in. It is where first years usually park... So come in on Empire entrance, hang a right and go under the highway, hang a right at the four way stop, go all the way down. You'll see parking places. Then walk up (Sparta Hill - by the time you get to the top you'll be as buff as a Spartan) all the way to the Chamber of Mines. Hang a left over the Amic Deck, over the road, keep going past the engineering buildings and you'll see the entrance to the Great Hall on your right. Third floor is the exams hall.

Wits has by far the worst admin I've ever seen. It is comparable to Home Affairs, so get there by around 7 tomorrow - any later and you'll be there for the whole day.

You'll need the following printed documents: fee statement and any letter(s) of acceptance you've received. You also need to know your student number. The rest should be okay, just prepare to waste tonnes of time doing nothing waiting in line if you dont get the stupidly early.

Dont bother if you get there after 11.

Good luck :)

Lower Mordor .... Hahahahahaha

Thanks! So, where is the fee department that I need to go to, to prove that I have paid my fees?

There will be a remote fees office just by the exams hall.

Edit:

Since your postgraduate the registration process is usually quick, so feel free to go any time, but maybe around 9 so if there is any issue you can get it sorted.

Okay. So I can (hopefully) do everything from the exams hall? Thanks guys! I'll try to get there by 7 tomorrow.

Oh, best place to park tomorrow will be the area above (or below) the Chamber of Mines. When wits officially opens make sure you get to campus before 9 for the period between February and March. As ph4t3 pointed out the boom gates won't be closed, so first years just end up parking up in other students allocated spots.

So I should take the Enoch Sontonga entrance and then find the first available parking?

Indeed. First parking on the left as you enter that entrance.
