This is probably a very specific issue that I'm experiencing but hopefully someone out there can help me.

I recently got an HTC Touch Diamond, running WM6.1. I use Internet Sharing on the phone and then connect it to my PC via a USB cable. I can then browse the web from my PC. If I now connect to my office VPN, it seems that the connection times out and / or is very slow. I can't even browse to other PC's on the network via the VPN connection as it times out. But I can ping the PC's so I know I'm definatly on the network.

Now I know what everyone is thinking... our VPN might be screwy. But if I use someone else in the office's phone (running WM6.0) I can connect and there is no problem whatsoever. The only difference is that he is on MTN and I'm on Vodacom.

Has anyone experienced anything simular? Or have any ideas what I could check?

I use ICS via Bluetooth PAN. Works without a hitch and has never dropped even after hours. Sounds like there's possibly some IP contention on your Networks setup, or perhaps a Proxy setting that needs to be tweaked. Wish I could be more helpful, sorry. However, I'm pretty sure it's only a setting as I know people who use various versions of WM (2003, 5, 6.0, 6.1) to do just about anything in the work network/domain ... telnet, VPN, etc, etc.

Thanks, I really hope it's only a setting. Think I'll play around with it a bit and see what I can figure out. I'll post my findings here.

I've played around abit and found the following: When I take my SIM card (Vodacom) and put it into another HTC running WM6.0 (can't remember the model) it works perfectly and I can browse our intranet sites over the VPN. So the problem is definatly limited to my phone.

I also used Internet Sharing on the other phone and then established the VPN connection from my laptop. I didn't change any of the settings so it is 100% the same on both phones as download from Vodacom upon insertion of the SIM card.

On my phone when I'm connected to the VPN I can browse the network shares and download email, but as soon as I try and browse our intranet websites or try to connect to any database (using TOAD etc.) it doesn't seem to be able to retrieve data. Almost like the phone is not able to handle large amounts of data coming through... (i'm just guessing here)

Anyone know of any setting somewhere on the phone that could cause this to happen?

Me too

I hope you've found a solution to the problem that you described because I'm experiencing something very similar.

Initially I was able to use my Mogul WM 6.1 phone as a modem (PAN) with my laptop running XP to go on line using internet sharing and Bluetooth. Then after about of month of use with no problems it has stopped working. The phone and the laptop both say that they are happily connected. But I am able to "connect" but I can't receive so I can't really access the web.

Like you, I think something has happened on my phone, but I don't know what, and I can't find anything that affects this situation. If anyone has any ideas, please share them!

Unfortunatly I still haven't found a solution. I've tried this on another HTC Touch Diamond (also running WM 6.1) and it has the same problem.

But mine did not work correctly from the start.

Most odd. I've just returned from the USA where I was online extensively - sometimes for many hours - and never once had a dropped connection. Though the Diamond only does Edge in the USA (I have an AT&T SIM), all was smooth and reliable. Most of the connections were bluetooth PAN, but a few times I also used USB to the laptop. I'm using the standard 1.93 ROM. Sorry - don't have any suggestions or ideas on how to resolve your issues.

I don't have any problems when I'm just browsing the web from my PC (using the Internet Sharing on the phone) it's when I connect to a VPN that the problems occur.

I'm then not able to connect to databases via query tools and other data intensive operations. I've tried it with another HTC Touch Diamond and had the same issue. Older model HTC's doesn't seem to have this problem (running WM6.0)
